O/T Lets VOTE!

A snap election and a historically safe seat bar the Smith era, and a single mum from blackpool with facial piercings and tattoos pushes him to a relatively small majority, she took 20,000 plus votes ,remarkable , and a second election could see him gone.

Yep, there used to be that old fart who liked to link everything to something he'd read that day in the Mail. I assume he's gone the way of the dinosaurs and the place is better for it.

Most of the season I've supported the reds and expected them to lose, so tonight isn't going to feel any different to most Saturdays for me. C'est la via haha :)

So what paper do you read ?

I don't, though I might pick up the Mail if i'm out of toilet paper. It's a paper for the stupid and ignorant, just a fact.

Morris described himself as the best MP the area has ever had, what a joke I've yet to meet someone who has a good word to say about him, hopefully next time he will be gone.

I wonder whether these people are ignorant or just genuinely selfish. I guess it's some from both camps and some who are a mix of the two.

An increase in his share of the vote by 2.1% from the last election. However no where near the increase in the Labour share of 9%.....but still not good enough to replace him.

It's been calculated that May would have had a majority if another 1688 votes for her party had been made over the entire election.

Where? By whom?
“Britain faces a simple and inescapable choice - stability and strong Government with me, or chaos with Ed Miliband: ".

David Cameron. May 4th 2015.
So how did that work out then?

Yeah, I understood the concept, I was just wondering who did the maths?

Flip side, Corbyn was 2227 votes away.

Vikki Sungleton fought the campaign with one hand tied behind her back. She had no money as it wasn't seen as a target / marginal seat. The campaign room was a dance studio and had to be packed away for classes. Yet she still managed to slash Morris's majority.

Well at the next election within 12 months it will be a different matter. She'll get a lot more funding and hundreds of activists from across the country will come and help. She or whoever gets picked will also have more locals working for her to fight her campaign. In Lancaster 20 Tories were out knocking doors on polling day but there were over 350 local Labour volunteers (some say 500 across the constituency). The same will happen in Morecambe too. If I was Morris I'd be very worried.

Unlikely that there will be another election while Brexit negotiations are in progress and the talks are not due to be completed until at the latest March 2019.
Next year in 2018 the boundaries commission will report and the constituency will change possibly to a Morecambe and Lancaster one. No guarantee that Morris would be chosen to fight such a seat but as they say a week is a long time in politics !

I wouldn't rule out a U-Turn with the EU, and a second referendum

a lot of talk about the EU giving us a better deal like what Cameron was wanting when he got blown out, in the next few weeks.

there're (Brussels)shitting it now, knowing others could follow us.

No point having another Election as whatever happens nobody likes the results! Scotland voted to stay but the losers want another vote. Brexit was a leave but remainers want another vote! The Americans would probably elect Clinton now. Let the minorities rule!!

That still has to be voted on by Parliament. There's no way the DUP will agree to support a bill that will reduce the number of MPs in Northern Ireland. It hasn't got a cat in hell's chance of passing. And, as much as the Tories may wish it, the chances of them getting through to the end of Brexit negotiations without being forced, one way or the other, to call another election, is minuscule.

You're old enough to remember 1974. There will be another election very soon.

Marky has spelt it out. There is no way the boundary changes will go through now as enough MPs won't vote for it.

Theresa May may not least beyond next week but I suspect she'll last longer because the Tories have few options to replace her and Brexit negotiations coming. However, from the Queen's speech it will fall to pieces. There only credible politician is Ruth Davidson and she's not an MP so can't stand. That leaves the way open for Boris Johnson. I'd love to see him stand as I think he's far more toxic than people think.
