Favourite Thommo Memories

What an exciting signing for the club! I'm sure if he stays fit he'll bag loads of goals and he's also another experienced head around the dressing room who has won a lot of stuff.

Anyhow, I have so many happy Thommo memories growing up. Here's a few:

- Wembley

- Goal vs Dover at home. Bolted down the wing and curled it into the top corner (have you got it Archived Gnasher/BS?)

- General terrorising of left backs. I loved it when he'd knock the ball past a player and sprint round the other side. He destroyed Bradford's defence when they first came down to league 2 alongside Carl Baker who was untouchable that night.

- His cross from the byline for a John Norman volley away at Margate in semis of FA Trophy. Pin point accuracy at pace.

Our first league game at Macclesfield in January 2008 always stands out for me when, from a goal down, he supplied a neat assist for Blinkhorn in the first half then was Johnny-on-the-spot late in the game to score the winner.

Thommo's winner against Chesterfield in the FA Cup in 2002. If I recall most fans were celebrating the prospect of a replay at Christie Park in the final minute of injury time as Thompson got through and dinked it over the keeper to send us through.

When we faced Wolves, who had just been promoted to the Premeir League, in a friendly at Christie. Dennis Irwin, a European Cup winner, was his opponent that afternoon. Irwin didn't know what had hit him! What a lift for the Club his return!

How could I forget I forget that one??! If it wasn't for Rod Taylor's persistance to negotiate my release from a steward after I ran on the pitch in delirium I would have been arrested.Thanks, RT!!!

20 minutes into a game at Crusty pie, stood on the Car wash and hearing Jimbo yell "Thommo - get your f***ing head on will ya!"

Stood in the same spot during another game and watching him pull down a ball on the touch line right in front of us, whilst turning the full back in the same movement. Cutting inside, drifting past another defender before curling one it into the top corner with his left foot. That and a Justin Jackson 30 yard volley were I think the two best goals I saw there.

Remember standing on the carwash side at Christie and Thommo being fouled and needing treatment. On comes Dave Edge, as he arrives he says "what's wrong Garry, hurt your toenail?"

Quite simply the greatest cross I've ever seen. How he kept the ball in? How he managed to get his foot round it at that pace? How he managed to get it anywhere near the box when he was running towards the line? And how did he get it right on an in running John Norman's toe for a superb volley. Brilliant, brilliant goal.

Four corners from the right and four goals versus Chester was pretty good.

Always the player you want during the big games.

We were 1-0 down, coming towards half time, 41st minute, needing to get back into the game.
The through ball from Jim, the mistake by the full back, and Thommo pounced, running through and
scoring at a crucial time.
If we had gone in at 1-0 down, would the second half have been different?
He did the business when we needed it the most.
