Late ish goal to save the game going to penalties. Or being shared. Perhaps? Who knows?

I know that pre-season friendlies actually mean very little as indicators of form etc., and most clubs naturally use them to experiment in various ways (players, formations etc.). But as a club from level 4 in the English system to have beaten teams from levels 8 and 7 by just a single goal seems slightly disappointing - or is that an unfair comment??

I welcome feedback from those that have actually seen the two games.

Thought we looked in control most of the match today and passed the ball around pretty well.

My main concern would be the lack of clear goal scoring opportunities that were generated.

I think Verdaine Oliver will be a handful for most opposing defences.

Number 19 (trialist, I believe) looked pretty good; nobody seemed to know his name - hope we sign him.

Rose was my first half MOTM. Thought Steve Yawson looked lively in the first half - seems to have come on a bit after his loan spell at Kendal Town.

But it was only a pre-season friendly with the usual mass-substitutions and some young/fringe players involved.

Match captain Alex Kenyon collected the "Bay Trophy" at the end. Announcer commented - "Oh dear, we are going to have to get a trophy cabinet now"!!

Looking forward to the season!

Bit of a shame that game. We utterly dominated but struggled to find an excess of clear gaps against a Lancaster side that seemed content to sit back and play for a draw. Pretty disappointing tactics in a friendly if I'm honest.

Mitchell Lund looked a pretty cracking player, very strong defensively and handy going fkrward. Wasn't particularly impressed with Brough, had the odd good flash but have the ball away a lot with sloppy passing. First half trialist CB looked decent; confident, aggresive and really attacked the ball, perhaps with a little too much enthusiasm at times. Never really been impressed with Kenyon and thought he looked a liability at CB, missed too many tackles. Noticed McGowan seems to have worked on his footwork and looked when he came on.

I liked Yawson and Campbell, the game was a bit stodgy so they didn't get much of a chance to run with the ball but both looked handy. Thought Yawson looked impressively strong in the tackle especially considering he's a youth team graduate. Jordan looked good when he came on and the bloke on the left (the U21 guy I presume) looked excellent. Thought Hedley was very solid when he came on.

Thompson and Oliver didn't seem to quite hit full gear when they played but both look like good big strong strikers who are handy with their feet.

I hope the peas and gravy lady gets better as the season goes on. 8 peas and a thimble of gravy really is pre season form!

But I suppose if we win all our matches this season by just one goal, nobody on here would be too concerned. We would end the season being promoted to Division 1 and winning the FA Cup (and others), so next season we would be in Europe ......................... yep, I guess that would be acceptable. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D (that beats CC's 3).

liked look of Kenyon playing at the back(first half) , re-previous seasons, like last season before he got injured when he was on form, as the makings of a good defender, physically solid and likes to get stuck in, wish we'd more like him when playing at home regarding our home form for the past few seasons.

Reece Deakin.

Cant understand why he was named as a triallist when he's part of our under 21 Development Squad. Played very well at Bamber Bridge. See my previous post about him on the BB thread.

Thought triallist No21 looked accomplished and certainly worth a look against stronger opponents. Haven't a clue who he was. :?: :?: :?:

Had a natter with Mr P who reckons a further loan signing next week.

We all see the game differently ... Thought Thommo at times was too intelligent for a few of his team mates up front, laying off headers, playing good balls/crosses etc which weren't picked up on. Was impressed with Brough on the offensive, overlapped well IMO. Agree no.19 was effective... However, some of our play in the final third was pretty woeful and kept a dogged opposition in the game.

Dreary game! Had my m8 who has just purchased a season ticket full of optimism for the coming season wondering if he could get a refund! Also a couple of prospective newbies sat behind us were saying they won't be back in a hurry! No passion or serious effort to attack and overwhelm the opposition. Different players on show in both halves but shape(?) and style didn't change. I know it was only a friendly but zzzzz

only pre season though, shaking off rust.

looking forward to PNE on Tuesday night, be a good test i reckon, think we'll start with a stronger lineup up, like in Boxing terms it's better sparring for our 1st team players with harder opposition.

suspect will see Roche back.

Yesterday and the Bamber Bridge game were more about trying systems and shapes as well as trialling players and gaining match fitness.

Not the most exciting game but a good gentle work out for the lads against an organised but limited City. Looks like we avoided any injuries or bother in the ground. :D The atmosphere was surprisingly friendly! Looks like a decent home turn out with an overall crowd of about a 1000? Anyone know the official figure? Should be a decent bit of cash raised for two good causes.
