I'm Buzzing :P

hope we now start doing the HAKA on the pitch before Kick off

seriously coming from New Zeleand he'll have been brought up having a competitive streak, and no doubt done some Rugby in his time at School and at 6.3ft should imagine he won't be shy with physical battles in L2

Surprising how a bit of good news can cheer one up... :)

Just hope he can shore up the back line and provide the foundations for a successful season. Like to see him play alongside a younger player.... :?:

His CV playing on these shores doesn't make great reading but he has played plenty of games and exprienced plenty of different leagues. I just hope he is mobile and able to bully a centre forward.

I picked up on that, but noticed he's chipped in with a few goals as a Center half.

plus watching New Zeleand in the last World Cup in Brazil and Confederation Cup in Russia last month, it's noticeable NZ style of football because of llimited skill, is to play route one football and be competitive, so I'm quite hopefull.

Is this the lad that's been playing as a trialist in the friendlies ?

No.

The trialists to date have included a Scottish defender plus a couple(?) of younger players who hoped to impress Jimbo and Co. One in particular has stood out for me but remains to be seen if he will be offered a deal. Certainly hope so.

Jim will have seen lots of videos of him so will be making an informed judgement. However it is a sketchy CV to say the least. Bouncing around the world to anywhere that would have him and couldn't get into Basingstoke and Sutton sides as he was peaking as a centre back. Let's hope he's another hidden gem.

He has only played 200 games at the age of 31 which isn't very many.

Jim's interview suggests that he thinks Old will do a good job for us so let's hope he is right.

According to a close source, there is an English wide player called James Sinclair, who played for both GAIS (Steve's last club) and Ljungskile SK (both at the same time as each other) and my source claims that they are/were, at the last club, quite close friends. I doubt Sinclair would actually be signing for us just because a teammate has done but he is orginally from Newcastle and Bolton so you never know!
All I can see on wikipedia is that his career doesn't exactly look brilliant but if he has been being played in the defence, then it's understandable.

Edit: This is the wiki page I have been linked to: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Sin ... footballer

Aye, I saw him when googling Steven Old. Not very encouraging CV, as you say.

Old... evidently his playing time in England can be pretty much ignored as it was merely to keep fit between his proper playing jobs in China and Sweden.

Interesting to see how he fares. As has been said his record so far doesn't inspire confidence but we don't know his personal circumstances. Maybe his football has been played alongside some other career development?
Is the glass half full or half empty? Mmmm? hard to say - but it does look like there's room for more beer!

Can understand the concern about his career stats to date, but let's give the guy a chance to show us what he's made of..... :) after all he can't be any worse than that clown Dugdale who now is about to disply his undoubted comic performances on the unsuspecting fans at Southport....bless 'em... :!:
