Shrimps of Canada; Checking In

Shrimps of Canada; Checking In

Postby drretro » Wed Aug 02, 2017 8:52 pm

Good afternoon/evening folks.

I thought I'd say hello and introduce myself, although some of you may already know me from my Twitter account @ShrimpsOfCanada. As the (Twitter) name implies, I'm a Canadian Shrimps fan. I've been following Morecambe for about five years now, to an ever increasing degree.

I'm planning my first trip across the Atlantic next year and, of course, I'm timing it to coincide with a match. The plan so far is to attend the April 14th fixture against Carlisle. I'll have to beg your indulgence between now and then as I'm sure I'll have questions leading up to the day; what to expect, where to sit, whats the best and worst beer, that sort of thing.

So thank you in advance for your patience, and hello!

Do you listen in on the Player service as was and IFollow as it will be to the matches?

Well you couldn't pick a much better game than Carlisle. They will bring loads of fans for a guaranteed good atmosphere. For comfort, go in the PMG Stand, for atmosphere go in the Omega Stand behind the goal. Beer is usually a ambient can of Carlserg unless you pay to go in the suite

Where in Ontario?
Is the glass half full or half empty? Mmmm? hard to say - but it does look like there's room for more beer!

picked a good game with Carlisle, should go in the Berlin Wall Stand, the Ground at least looks decent from that View.

Unless we assign it to Carlisle fans again like last time for the ££££££ element

Will do! I don't have Player or IFollow. The Shrimps Player only occurred to me end of last season. No idea why I haven't been doing that all along. Seems so obvious now. It's traditionally been pretty difficult to follow from over here. I've had to make do with match reports, highlights, Twitter, etc. I plan on changing that this year.

I lost my voice last weekend in a supporter's section. So atmosphere. Atmosphere, any day.

Better than the Bud I'm used to. I bet it's less than $12 (£7.25), too.

Coors light is getting popular over here, with a lot if places selling it on draft, goes down to well..

Okayyy... I don't know it but will have passed through on the way from Ottawa to Toronto many years ago.
I stayed with relatives on Ottawa - they moved there after living in Mississauga for a few years. My uncle was chief building surveyor/contract manager (or something) when they built the big, gold, Royal Bank of Canada building in Toronto... then he was overseeing the one in Ottawa when I stayed with them.

We spent time in both cities.

So, about $5.30 Canadian. Wow. That's about what you'd pay in a bar or restaurant. No kidding; a beer at BMO Field (20 oz) is about $12 with tip (and I do). The first time I took a friend of mine to a match there he asked what to bring. I told him to get a second mortgage for beer money.

North-east of Toronto, west of Ottawa. If you took highway 7 then you would have passed by the southern edge of town and from the highway it's pretty unremarkable.

Welcome drretro.
Look forward to seeing you at the Globe.
I know exactly where you are. In June we went from Ottawa to Toronto via Kingston on the 401 so missed the 7.
