Morecambe 0 - 1 Swindon Live Thread

Postby drretro » Sat Aug 19, 2017 2:11 pm

Since there doesn't seem to be an official iFollow thread this morning (I'm assuming because most folks are at the Globe), I'm taking it upon myself to start one.

Also, I reserve the right to rename this 'DrRetro's Echo Chamber' as needed.

So far: Nice to be back in Red and the radio and video are syncing up right out of the box this morning!

Quite right too!

Don't know where Freez is, he normally starts the threads but he's not commentating today.

I was having IT problems, but here now.

(Despite doing these threads for about a decade, Freez still doesn't use the format that you picked up after four matches!)

A great feeling relaxing on a sun lounger by the pool in Tenerife and listening to the Shrimps. Let's hope the guys can give us the result!!!

Sounds nice! I'm just in my living room. Got sun, though! Oops. Spoke too soon.

So that was serious enough for a yellow, not serious enough to call a foul or stop play.

For a moment there I thought I was watching an MLS game.

Sounds like we've been coming back in to this. Would be nice to get a goal before half time!

Very back and forth, but Morecambe have definitely ramped up the pressure.

Eh???

So two would on Wildig not given, advantage played as Wildig puts Thommo through.
Keeper brings Thommo down... penalty (& red card?)
But no, Thommo was off side...

In which case, how can you play advantage from the fouls on Wildig?

FFS... another season where all the crap decisions go against us?

You saw it Doc, did your view concur with the commentary?

So for the record, the majority of my exposure to the game is through MLS. And through that exposure I have seen some outrageous, criminal officiating (Baldomero Toledo, David Gantar, I'm looking at you!) I wouldn't dare to say MLS rigs games. That would be wrong and irresponsible hyperbole. But you do see 'narratives' develop over the season that the officials have a hand in.

I say all that to give context of my opinion as thus.

This isn't great officiating but it's not the worst I've seen. The official is at least consistently bad (so far). From what I saw, the yellow was terribly soft. Again, what's bad enough to warrant a yellow but not stop play for a foul? The penalty was a tough call, I'd have to see that again, but my gut says the penalty was legit.

To be honest, I like to see that. If there is an advantage, let the game flow, then go back and book the player when play comes to a natural end.

I've sometimes asked this question and don't know the actual answer... well, I think I do, just not sure it has ever happened! If a player commits a foul that warrants a yellow card, but the ref plays advantage, then the same player commits another foul for another yellow, does the ref show him the card twice and send him off? I suspect that the correct decision is to do just that, but in reality, they'd point out the previous and current foul, but just show one yellow.

According to the commentary, Thommo was off-side, so the penalty couldn't be given. They restarted with a free-kick to Swindon, but it should have been the first offence, the free-kick to us.

Absolutely. First offence should be resolved first before anything else.

Hello from Arizona.I have been watching the matches on iFollow this year. Sadly there is no commentary on the broadcasts. I emailed the club and they told me there would be. Any news on this? I do miss the commentary.

Dr Retro, I thought myself to be the only both Shrimps and Granatas supporter on the North American continent.

Haven't heard anything, but I've got the video playing in one window and the radio commentary in the background. The video gets out of sync (usually a minute or two ahead), but if you're willing to spend a few minutes pausing and waiting for the audio to catch up, it's more than serviceable.

The Swindon keeper gave us a lot of opportunities in the first half we couldn't capitalize on. Feels like the offense has let up this half though.

Ah well. Swindon didn't win that as much as the Shrimps lost it.

Doesn't sound like it was the best Shrimps game today. Will hope for a better game this side of the pond when Toronto FC plays this evening ...
