Squad size

Squad size

Postby Christies Child » Wed Sep 06, 2017 11:53 am

We've currently got a squad of 28 players ( as printed in the match day programme) which I can't recall ever having a squad as big as that for decades.

So can't be any excuses this season about lack of numbers and as the season progresses I would expect that number to change with our younger players being loaned out to non league clubs to gain valuable game time.

The squad size and numbers of younger players in it argues well for our future assuming that the majority of them progress to have what it takes in terms of skill and physical attributes to become League 2 regulars.o

Future looking good.

:) :) :)

I hadn't realised the squad was so large.

This is the consequence of the transfer window and the ending of the emergency loan system as no club wants to be hit by an injury/suspension crisis if they have a small squad.

Should this have resulted in an increase In Jimbo's budget... :?:

Would like to think so, but just wonder if we hadn't a squad of 28 that more money could have been spent on quality and experience.

But for me makes a strong statment about a club youth policy going forward.

Interestingly Huddersfield have done away with their youth set up.

We seem to have a much better crop of youngsters than previous years.

IMHO I would have made Maher the back-up keeper to Barry on the bench and let Dan go out on loan.

I like how a lot of the squad are Athletically built and 6ft+ we've now got plenty of height, I'm a big fan of Tony Pulis, and what he does with small budgets, and setting physical teams up against superior opposition, this squad what Jim's got this season is built like a typical Tony Pulis one.

just need a poor mans Rory Delap for the long throw ins into the 6 yard box like corners.

Talking of Huddersfield I see mark lillis has gone to the Indian premier league with John gregory makes sense now he must have lost his job at htfc.

Have you not seen Rose's throw? It is incredible how far he gets it in the box! More accurate than his corners!

yeah, he's not bad, doesn't do it enough though, and when he does we don't get all our big players into the box aswell as blocking and winding the opposition keeper up(Ellison tailor made for that job) but this season could be different.

controversially probably MFC best ever who was known before we signed him for long throwings was a certain Tony Capaldi!
