I wonder just how much the apparent lack of a real leader on the pitch this season has affected our performances. I felt that Michael Rose was the correct choice as captain but unfortunately his form has dipped and he cannot be sure of even being in the team.
Alec Kenyon has that necessary attitude on the pitch but not sure that he is quite good enough to command a regular place either. But at least he "gives it a go".
There is an excellent article in today's Daily Mail (yes, really!!! ) by Paul Ince bemoaning this very point - no leaders on the pitch. Worth a read.

Alex is the only alternative to Michael at the moment.

Maybe in the future someone like Old could step forward as I believe that a captain has to be a defender who can see what's going on in front of him...and behind...

Old can often be seen and heard ( certainly from C Premier) in organising his fellow defenders.

Other SVers will have different opinions I'm sure.

I think Kenyon is good enough, I reckon making him captain will make him a better player he's influential, I'd be quite happy for him to just sit Infront of the back four and cover team mates making forward runs

Have to agree with that. For me, there's no other alternative at the moment. Yes, he's young, but we all have to start somewhere, and he's one of the longest serving players at the moment (discounting Flemmo and Kev, neither of whom could fulfil the role). For me, we need the best motivator we have, as I think the only thing we lack at the moment is confidence. We don't need someone negative like Rose who seems to spend most of each game complaining about the others (just as bad as Beeley used to be) (Sorry if that's completely false and unfair on Rose, but it's how he's looked to me a few times recently, so from my personal observation only).

I think we have heard the same thing for every captain we have had since Bentley - and we will never have another like him on the field.

The fact is it doesn't matter who is wearing the arm band, there needs to be several leaders on the pitch.

Spot on.
Successful sides have players who take responsibility for themselves on the pitch, don't hide, and thus naturally leads to several leaders, which is the hallmark of winning teams.
