Has until 6pm today to respond. Then faces a two-match ban unless he successfully appeals the charge.

I hope the FA will be consistent with this. There is blatant diving in the Prem every week yet only one player has been charged in that division so far.

What happens if a player receives a yellow card for simulation? Do they get banned at a later date or is no futher action taken?

Might have softened the blow a bit if we had actually scored

''Incidents which suggest a match official has been deceived by an act of simulation are referred to a panel consisting of one ex-match official, one ex-manager and one ex-player.''

Who points out 'the incident'? :?

As I posted the other day, it looks as though the Carlisle manager has carried out his threat of reporting Sam to the EFL.

Opinion is certainly divided on their Fans Forum as to whether it as a 'dive' or not.

For me it's hard to be definite one way or t'other so let's hope that the panel see it that way as they have to be all convinced that it was deliberate.

If it is proved to be deception then he deserves a two match ban, it makes the game a laughing stock . You see it weekly in televised premiership games and gets overlooked ,cant believe they havent seen the dozens of cameras pointing at them.

Not sure if the Premiership fall under the same jurisdiction as they appear to have carte blanch about what they do.

One law for us lot in the EFL and another for the rich sods in the Premiership.....it feels like it if maybe not true.

Quote from the article on the OWS
“Each panel member will be asked to review all available video footage independently of one another to determine whether they consider it was an offence of ‘Successful Deception of a Match Official’.

Only in circumstances where the panel are unanimous would The FA issue a charge.”

If the panel have already been unanimous in agreeing that he should be charged then no point in appealing.

from 1.42 - slow it down to .25 speed.

Seems clear that his right foot was clipped and that's what took him down. No evidence of deception there.

It would be impossible for his leg to change direction in that way without some contact?

I agree. Think it’s very harsh and I think the fa are trying to prove a point. Feel for Lavelle as he has been one of the better players recently and this might effect him playing in the near future.

I agree with Barebum - looks like their keeper made contact with Lavelle.

I can't imagine all three "judges" independently ruling that it was a case of deception (based on that footage)..........but you never know

Fingers crossed Sam will be OK.

He may have been charged but the independent panel decide it he's guilty. It's more a sop to the Carlisle Manager who may have instigated the action.....in my opinion.

Chris Powell is one of the 3 on the panel. He gave a good insight in to how it all works on one of the BBC footy shows at the weekend.

I think the club should appeal. It's ridiculous. I've watched it about eight times, at full speed and slow motion, and I can't decide. The first couple of times, I thought 'dive', then I watched in slow-motion and think the keeper's trailing hand clips Lavelle's foot. Watched it a couple of times that way and I think the foot is clipped. No way that they can be sure one way or the other.

If he gets a yellow for simulation then surely he hasn't successfully deceived a match official.

If Lavelle is found guilty its a farce. It's not difficult to tell from the video, but when you see him go down and then watch how quickly the ref comes WALKING into video shot with nobody blocking his view. If he cannot tell from that clear distance and angle, then he should not be officiating.

Exactly that. The retrospective punishment is where the dive results in either a penalty or an opposition player being sent off. I think it is a good idea in principle, but it has to be for clear cut cases.

Thanks for nothing Curle.....

This for me sets an unwanted precedent that gives cart blanch to all managers throughout the game to report any incident that they feel has been an act of deception on the part of an oppositions player.

Can't be sure it was Curle who reported it.
