O/T Stephen Mashiter RIP / Funeral arrangements

Postby Christies Child » Wed Dec 13, 2017 3:04 pm

It's with personal sadness that I have to report the sad and unexpected loss of another long standing Shrimps fan.

Stephen was a life long follower of our club and was a hardy regular who watched and passed a highly individual assessment of our team from the Omega Stand.

He along with a number of others was a regular passenger in my car to away games when in non league and although like us all age caught up with him, he was still very vocal at games often passing judgement on all aspects of our club.

I'm sure others who knew Stephen will join with me in passing our heart felt condolences to his wife Jayne and his family at this sad time.

Very sad news. Part of the School End roof brigade in the dark times of the late 70's and early 80's. Steve was a definite die hard, standing with Beardie Brian, Big Jim, Dave B and John Day, week in and week out, rain or shine, lose, get hammered, lose or draw, as it seemed to be in those days.

RIP Steve.

Very sad. Steve took me to my very first game probably somewhere around 1987 as I was at school with his boys. Very nice man. A permanent fixture behind the goal for so many years & certainly deserves some recognition for that.

Just heard about Steve passing away via an e-mail from another long long standing friend now living in Scotland (Alan Coupe). My memories of Steve go back so far that I think I still wore shorts when we first met. Many was the night that after having a kick around on the car park in Heysham Village we would grab some fish and chips in the village and end up back at Jack and Eileen's (his parents). Always made us welcome and were truly lovely people - which is probably why Steve was too.
Fond memories of coming back to Morecambe for a joint 50th birthday party for Steve and Jim (Wyatt) down at The Elms and then returning to Steve and Jayne's house afterwards (they lived just round the corner from my Mum and Dad). We emptied his booze cupboard of all the Southern Comfort!!!
Some years later when my Dad passed away, Steve called in to see me (at Dad's house) on his way to the first game of the season at C.P. -It was Stafford Rangers and I think we lost 1-0 but it was the season that we actually made it up into the Football League. Well, die hard fan that he was, Steve offered to miss the match and help me sort through some of Dad's stuff. I declined his offer but that's irrelevant.
He was a lovely man, and although I hadn't seen him for some years he will remain in my memory as long as I have one.

R.I.P Steve (Mert - and I have no idea where that came from!!)

I have a photo of Steve (and many others) taken at "apparent" last game at C.P (v Aldershot prior to D&R play-off) but I can't work out how to download it onto this posting. If anybody can help please let me know how you do it. I know it must be really easy and apologise for my lack of IT skills!!!

Thanks for the IT help Keith.

For those looking to find Steve in the photo look right along the bottom - he is to the left of centre, with the white hair and glasses.

Sandwich'd between a director and Gnasher. Lots of memories but the best has to be Steve going out for a ciggy from the sponsors box at the Christie end. Segregated match, think it was Chester, and he did what he always did, said it as he saw it. He had to be encouraged back in before he said too much

RIP Steve.
