Sponsored bricks in the North Stand.

Sponsored bricks in the North Stand.

Postby thedoc » Tue Dec 12, 2017 9:54 pm

I think I'm right in thinking that supporters effectively sponsored individual bricks in the North Stand at Christie Park to help pay for it. Does anyone know how much money this raised? I assume that these bricks were reduced to rubble when the ground was demolished. Particularly if you bought one or more of these things, how do you feel about the fact that there was no consultation that I am aware of with the people who put their hands in their pockets to buy these bricks in the first place before they were smashed to pulp?

...also, how are you coming to terms with the loss of your beloved brick 6 years down the line?

Lest we forget, some bricks.

Some bricks were scrounged or sneaked under the security fence when the demolition crew weren't watching

I managed to get a brick and it's proved a useful tool to keep the lid on a refuse bin when it's windy.

I wonder if anyone has got a brick from the original North Stand? 8-) 8-) 8-)

Could be my memory playing tricks, but I seem to remember seeing a plaque or something
with all the names of people who contributed.
Anyone else remember or is it just me ?

they put up a plastic framed poster on the side of the North Stand after it was built, had a list of all the contributors. Don't know what happened to it when it was demolished though

There are some pointless threads on here but this one is ridiculous.

Although the initial posts may seem to be a bit of light banter, at the end of the day we have found out that our efforts all those years ago to help the club build a new stand have not been forgotten.

I for one and I'm sure many others will be pleased with this, so this thread has ended up very informative, rather than pointless and ridiculous.

You're right. We can also sleep well tonight knowing those bricks weren't smashed to a pulp without any proper recognition.

Correct. I don't get why anyone cares. Whole things seems needlessly sentimental.

Any chance that someone might actually answer this question? How many people paid for bricks in the North Stand? How much did they contribute? How do those of us - other than those individuals who clearly didn't contribute and therefore don't give a damn - actually feel about the fact they helped move the club forward in the 1990s only to see their contribution literally reduced to rubble?

I contributed, it was a great stand and we all miss it. However, my perspective is that we needed to move and whatever we did back in the mid 90's helped get the club established in the top 6 of the Conference and then the FL.
It's almost 2018, my contribution to the North stand was nearly 22 years ago, there have been a myriad of ups and downs since the day it opened against Cheltenham, and I'm glad I did it. Some who contributed may well feel let down, but personally, the 13 years we enjoyed in the stand more than paid back my investment.
As did myself, my brother, cousin and best mate clubbing together to sponsor a certain J Bentley's kit on the day he signed!!!

To me it was a way that allowed fans to make a relatively affordable donation to the club generally. Sponsoring the brick was a hook, but really, it was simply a donation. It made a huge difference to the club, and we had some great times on there, so as far as I'm concerned, the donation I made was repaid time & time again.
