Losing the must win games

Losing the must win games

If our league position wasn't a big enough worry the fact that we are losing points to most of the teams around us at the bottom is ominous. Crawley, Crewe,Cheltenham. Forest Green, Port Vale and now Barnet have collected three points from us. In the final round up at the end of the season these will be seen as hugely significant results and devalue the odd good performances against Luton and Coventry. The present squad is not playing consistently, its a curious mix of good players, players who probably should be in non-league, players reaching the end of their careers and a couple who seem permanently on the treatment table! In my opinion we desperately need a couple of signings in the January window and in the return fixtures against teams around us we need the points.

We beat Cheltenham 2-1 first game of the season but your point is right.

If we could have beaten Forest Green and Barnet and lost to Wycombe and Coventry we would still be on 22 points but have a bigger cushion from the bottom.

Thanks for correction about Cheltenham game, Gone Shrimping. It was last season we lost at home to them in the game Kenyon was sent off, spoilt by an awful refereeing performance.

You still get the feeling that, in these bottom of the table clashes, they are told that they must not give away the first goal instead of being told that they must score the first goal.

I agree too, and linked in to this must be the lack of leadership on the field, when things start to go wrong.
I don't see much evidence of any players setting an example, as a team they seem resigned to the situation when they have conceded goals.
