Sadly Ade, those whose have a different opinion to yours are often quite nasty about it, when they can tear themselves away from a picket line. It's really not worth the effort.

I'm not on benefits and never have been, but I don't begrudge anyone that has to live off them the right to claim them, nor do I think the payments are generous ,quite the opposite, as we are one of the richest countries in the world we are well off enough to provide for those that need help, and we have a moral obligation to do so as a civilised "society".....

Absolutely spot on post.

MPH may not begrudge people having a lifestyle entirely supported by benefits and he may think they are not generous but fortunately that was not a majority opinion hence David Morris was re-elected.

"Lifestyle"??

Nice to see empathy from all political opinions apparent!!

NOT?

From both sides of the political divide, if there is any support at all for Mr Morris and his recent actions, or lack of them, I personally find that hard to countenance.

OK we all have different views on politics, but surely working families in poverty cannot be correct and a change is needed.

If we cannot, as a supposed strong economy and modern society, even feed, cloth and home the people, we are failing.

Mr Morris as an MP, disregarding his party line, is an oxygen thief, and I would be thinking that no matter who he represented.

Please stick to the debate in a decent manner. No more disparaging comments about someone who works for a living.

So you agree with Morris and his party that starving disabled people, through underhanded methods as I outlined? No concerns about the number of disabled people who have committed suicide due to this policy?

If you are stupid enough to believe that anyone is deliberately starving anybody then you probably read The Guardian or Morning Star.

Tories appeal to the greedy, and vilification of the needy is a key tool in their armoury, I like to think there is some good in everyone , even Tory voters.......tory politicians though....none, not a bit.

ATOS were paid bonuses based upon the number of people who they assessed as 'fit for work' and were taken off disability benefits. The woman I mentioned earlier would have counted towards that bonus. If you genuinely don't believe that was a deliberate strategy, then you are naive at best or simply burying your head in the sand, so you don't have to think about how evil this deliberate policy was.

Bet you don't think people committed suicide either?

Try suspending your disbelief for a couple of minutes and watch this clip from Prime Minister's Question Time.

Keith , when a government minister is charged by the police with starving disabled people or manslaughter I will come on this forum and announce that Keith was right. Until then I will continue to file it under "fake news".

So because what they did was 'legal' you don't believe it happened?
Are you saying that the person I wrote about in this thread was a lie?
Despite it being a first hand account, you think it is 'fake news'? Basically, you're saying I'm lying?

Thing is, even the leftie Daily Mail slammed ATOS:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... ancer.html

Blind, damaged back, chronic pain, diabetes, leg ulcers & cancer.

Deemed fit for work by the Department of Work & Pensions and his benefits were cut to £71 per week for him and his wife to live on (she was his carer). They had been, according to the Daily Mail, previously on £121 per week (that's £524 a month for those who fancy a life on benefits) but the DWP cut the £50 Disability Benefit.

They were told the appeal would take 12 months, despite his cancer being terminal.

These are the people you & David Morris and the Tory government are hitting.
Have a look... this man was deemed 'fit for work', despite being blind, in chronic pain & terminally ill with cancer. But don't worry yourself with a reality you don't like. It's fake news and I'm lying.

Maybe we've ALL been barking up the WRONG tree!
https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/make ... -3w9t98zqd
No wonder there's so called 'Poverty' and there's no money left for benefits :o
No bloody wonder the government are up against it.
Keith I go along with what you say about Nurses (to a point) and how hard they're working to keep the rising tide of excessive patients they have to treat but when you look at this no wonder the NHS needs some kind of 'Overhaul'
IF we ALL pay a portion of our wage each and every month YOU would get the NHS you so want to see and put an END to this CARVE UP!

According to left wing, 'fake news' peddling, Tory hating... The Daily Mail...

"...over a period of two years, 2,380 people died within 14 days of being taken off Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) because they were declared 'fit to work' by a controversial assessment process".

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... WEEKS.html

That was twelve people EVERY WEEK dying within a fortnight of having their benefits cut because they were malingering benefit cheats who were actually fit for work. One hell of a way to prove a point eh?

It is really hard reading some of this. I am someone who does not work in the paid sense of the term. I became very ill sometime years ago and spend all my time in chronic pain and considerable distress. While totally supported by my health professionals I have been turned down by the PIP assessments. I live on £73 a week. I am 56 and started work at 15 and worked until I was 49. I have run down the little savings I had and live in a rented room. I did not vote for Labour or Tory as it happens, Labour brought in the work assessments and got American insurance company UNUM to to run them - they are notoriously awful as a company. The Tories have turned the screw. The minimum wage is the equivalent of nearly £300 a week yet if you are to ill to work £73 is considered enough and people on here seem to concur. Really you had might as well come and finish folks like me off as that is what is happening. I used to come and watch Morecambe a fair bit but it is way beyond my paygrade now even if I were up to it. When folks write and talk as some on here do you are talking about real people. Please remember that - I would so love t be well enough to work - being ill is truly the worst thing

I'm going to draw a massive line under this topic now and bow out gracefully, we have all had our say and I want no ill feeling towards any of my friends on here that I have known for many years as we approach a New year.
I will repeat that some folk have me all wrong, they think I come from Mayfair when the reality is that I've always been more Old Kent Rd both from my upbringing to my failure at School because of it.
I'm a working bloke who would help anyone and talk to anyone no matter who they are, I do say things that can be a bit close to the bone but that is only because I have lived through the bad times, got through it and want to help others to do the very same.
Our family is the only thing we have that is sacred, we all do what we have to do to protect their interests for a brighter future.

I would like to wish each and everyone of you a very happy and prosperous New year (JIMBO and the lads included) and sorry once again for my outspokenness that maybe should have been said by a more 'educated' person.
