I want Jim to stay!

Postby black morse » Sat May 05, 2018 4:30 pm

I know this is a very divisive topic and I wouldn't have posted on it if the rumour hadn't started that it might be his last game but I still want him to stay with some money to spend on the team. For all his detractors and there are quite a few I'm sure there are many who don't want him to go at this stage.

Just put my hard hat on ;)

Too right!

Frustrating at times, but he's got us through the toughest period in our history. Taking the new owners at face value, based upon what they said on Granada News, Jim may actually have a chance of some investment & stability. Keep this defence together and develop a team that know how to shoot, and we're not far off a decent side. A season with some cash to see what he can really do when it isn't 'backs against the wall'.

I think the " silent majority " of Morecambe fans want Jim to stay. I think he's enough in credit to our Club to choose his own departure time. Jimbo Shrimps Legend !

Yes, and from as long ago as when we 'ratted' on a taxi driver for clipping his car in the car park at Christie, we knew he was 'De Man'!!! long may he reign!!!!

I have wanted Jim to go for a while but I agree we won't get anyone as hard working or passionate BUT he has to change the way we play we played well today but we still looked like never scoring. We have nothing upfront.

People keep saying we cant score.Do you not think Jim has tried to get a goalscorer,we have no money, good strikers cost plenty.Hopefully we might be able to get one now.

I don't think its just a case of getting a striker. It's how your team plays to support and feed the striker. After all we had Amond who has proved a prolific striker but Jim never rated and we had Barkhuizen regularly played out of position at the Globe but who North End fans rave about. The defence is sound but midfield needs a good sort out and up front we are toothless. Might there be an argument to bring in an attacking coach to support the manager?

I'm sure Jim has tried to improve his options up front but hes been held back by a lack of money and unless that is seriously improved close season then it could be a re run of the past season all over gain.

I can't cope with yet another season of being so close I'm many games all for the lack of a proven striker.

The problem being is where the hell do we find someone who is proven and more significantly at the right price.

There are a number of promising youngsters in the club but wouldn't be capable of a full punishing season at efl level then we will need to look outside the club.

All this of course depends on whether our current management team are still at the Globe.

If Jim is still with us and we change our style of play to match the new playing surface ie on the deck then I've no issues with the status quo.

Whatever happens in the next few weeks both on and off the pitch this close season could be one of the most defining for our club for many seasons.

With us being a League Two side next season, rather than a Conference team, perhaps we'll be able to get Lang back. I'd actually like to see him played up front next to Kev, with Kev staying up front and being a pain in the arse to the opposition defence. He can score or he can make an opening for Lang (or whoever). The midfield is the problem that needs sorting. Wildig made one cracking through ball for Kev yesterday, that led to our only half chance, but every other attempt at a through ball from anyone, was either over hit, or to a Coventry player.

The other thing I really want from Jim is to stop worrying about the opposition so much. I want us to know his preferred formation & players before the season kicks off and try to stick with them. Chopping & changing makes it difficult to get on the same wavelength. The defence are playing well as a unit, in part because they've been consistent for some time now.

Let's hope the new owners produce some cash so Jim has a competitive budget. Hopefully, they told him that yesterday after the game, so he can start looking now, rather than at last minute.

But I hope he has a couple of weeks holiday first!

With Wigan being in the Championship its hard to see him forcing his way into their starting 11.

Its a case of whether other clubs in League 1 or even League 2 chase after him.

Sorry to disagree Keith but we can't rely on a 38 year old up front for another season. Kevin will be a useful addition to the club at management level especially for the reserves and youth squads.

But please we have to move on and bring in younger players up front.

As for Callum ..... No problem with him coming in as a new recruit but he needs a proven striker alongside him who has got age on his side.

We've a settled back four

We've a decent keeper

We've forwards who can score goals(it's supplying them)

Just need to rebuild the Midfield Infront on Kenyon who can sit in midfield protecting the back four.

Reckon we'll need 4 players in the summer, 3 midfielders and another Forward depending on Lang.

In terms of strikers/goals, I think a lot is down to the players around him/the style of play. Take Stockton for example; a success here because he was our lone forward, he held the ball up well and could feed it off to others (eg, Barkhuizen) before making his way into the box. On his return to the Globe with Carlisle, he was part of a fluid rotating front three and looked utterly lost.

I thought Wildig did an ok job at No10 yesterday considering we did very little attacking and he probably wasn't at full fitness, having not started a game in a long while. That through ball to Kev was lovely. But, I agree that we still need a bit of a reshuffle in midfield.

Suspect it'll be a huge rebuild throughout the squad.

I think Old will leave to be nearer his family in the South and that players such as McGurk, Wylde, Winnard, Thommo, Nizic, Conlan, Muller, Rose, Brough, Lund and Fleming could leave either through choice or not offered new deals.

Whatever happens some experienced new blood is needed especially in the engine room.

With only 4 players on contract Jim or whoever has a hell of a lot of work to do AND critically success will depend on budget....as always.

Of course he should stay. A clueless vocal minority shouldn't dictate that he goes.

If this slightly offends those who want him out then I'm not too concerned. They've been offending common sense for most of the season. It is total no brainer to want him to stay. For the avoidance of doubt, even someone that is so stupid that we'd say they have no brain would still be able to recognise that he should stay.
The fact is that with an absolutely shocking budget he has kept us in the league once again. Any neutral can see that he is doing a great job, it's sad that a section of the club's own fans can't see it too.

Cue the whining about style of play. I'm sure we would all love to go and watch Barcelona every week but with what we've got currently that isn't going to happen. With what we've got Jim's job is to keep us up, this would not have happened if he'd pandered to the bunch on here that would rather see us get beat 5-3 every week 'but at least having a go'. We're all frustrated about the lack of goals, the lack of wins and the lack of attacking football, but the bloke is working with what he's got. As would any manager who came in to replace him.
If these new investors are serious then maybe we'll see what is actually possible with some investment. Hopefully he'll get the chance to show what he can do with some decent backing, he's definitely earned it. Those who don't think he should get this chance should go and support Everton or West Ham.

19 draws and 18 defeats.

Usually if you lose less matches than you draw you could expect to be a decent way up the table.

The 9 wins in a season is very low and would be relegation form 9 seasons out of 10

6 teams ended up with less than 50 points...

When you walk round the Ricoh Stadium inside and out, see their facilities and the sheer size and quality of the place, I still can't believe that 'little' Morecambe are competing at the same level.. unbelievable achievement all things considered

Too bloody right.

Image the revenue alone from that Exhibition Hall and the beer consumed plus the catering. However not sure how much truth there is in this but one Coventry fan we spoke to suggested that in a couple of years time they may have to relocate to another new stadium if a deal with the existing owners can't be sorted.

On the minus side the pure logistics of keeping the current Stadium could be a financial drain on the Coventry FC Ltd.
