I am as suspicious as you regarding the motives of our new owners.
I get all that but you said that the principle reason for the club’s problems was the apathy of the town’s people. It isn’t.
You think about opening up a shop in Morecambe. You first work out is there enough people with the income and interest to sustain it. Then you build a shop big enough to cater properly for them. Then you market the business regularly. And then you make sure you check with you customers whether the offer, prices and service is good and address it if not. If you don’t your customers don’t come. And it’s your fault not theirs.
People have hundreds of choices where to spend their money, including watching Sky Sports or going to watch Preston North End or going for a day out in Manchester. If we don’t give people a compelling offer or disappoint them every time then they won’t come.
Through junior football and school I know hundreds of people who have been and want to come to game but there is no incentive for them or Marketing to them. I’ve brought loads of them but won’t anymore because I can’t do the club’s job and their kids don’t want to see me swearing or having a meltdown. Seriously, my own son doesn’t come anymore for a lot of reasons.
