IF there is any real truth in this, I hope the 2 year extension works in our favour, good luck to him whether he chooses to stay or go, I can understand either way and a lot will depend on what our new owners have said, if anything.
One thing for sure IMO, is that they wont give him long to settle in and certainly wont accept the points tally we get.
Our keyboard warriors having nothing on them lot!

Carlisle are looking to reduce their playing budget and want a Manager able to bring players through rather than expensive signings.

Keith Curle and his coaching team had an annual salary of nearly £200k.

Perfect for Jim then, cutting their budget would probably give him 50% more than he has now, how he must wish for that here

Yes , but the existing players earn much more than our players so he may end up with a squad of about 12!

I'm not convinced yet that this isn't another "Shrewsbury" to enable Jim to engineer a new contract from Bond Investments.

Who would in their right mind travel nearly 3 hours or 6 hours a day sometimes 5 times a week to get to Carlisle from the Wirral? I understand that he wants to better himself, but Carlisle? Especially over Shap in the middle of winter.

Carlisle fans very unhappy that Nicky Adams has signed for Bury today after Carlisle had paid his wages for a year while he was injured.

Why would it matter if Carlisle offer Jim far more than we can offer him on his current deal. With the money he gets he can stay over the night in a hotel. He goes we move on its simple. We have done before and will do again.

Sentiment has it's place but there are other factors just as important, if not more so.

David Hopkin promoted to the Premiership, not saying too much in his interview but is meeting his boss Tuesday/Wednesday.
Hopkin now 1/2 , Jimbo 7/1

I wouldn't have thought the strengths Jim has in management matched what Carlisle want at all. As an ex-defender Jim has a focus very much on defence with an emphasis on not losing rather than on winning. Carlisle want to win enough games to get promoted as quickly as possible. We tend to play hoofball and Carlisle would not achieve the success they crave by playing this style of football. Jim signs players in many cases whose careers are going nowhere (Jamie Devitt, Shaun Miller) and revives their careers so they can move on to other clubs. Carlisle in their quest for promotion want players whose careers are already showing promise or whose careers are back on track and showing quality once more. I personally don't think Jim would be a good match for Carlisle and I suspect he won't get appointed.

I'm surprised at Hopkin being the favourite. Clearly he's done very well at Livi with back-to-back promotions, but he now has the chance to manage in the Scottish Premiership. He only signs 1 year deals apparently so surely Livi will want to give him a crack at another successful season (whatever they deem that to be)? If it doesn't work by Christmas then they only have 6 months of his contract to pay up and find a replacement.

Contrast that with the Carlisle job in L2. People keep mentioning that they are desperate to get promoted (who isn't?) but they have openly stated that they will be on a budget next season. Jim's proven he can build a team on a budget and has signed some quality players at this level who can perform well in L2 (Barky, Devitt, Miller etc). The difference being he already has some of those decent players in place at Carlisle and a Carlisle 'budget' will, in all likelihood, be plenty more than ours. He will also more than likely have the funds the season after to keep his best players rather than them looking for a 'bigger' club. For me that puts him in with a very good chance of being appointed.

Might be wrong but I feel Jim wouldn't be too keen on Carlisle, with the extra travelling, unless he felt there was no chance of extra money to spend on players here. In that case, if he goes, the signs are not good.
As I say, might be totally wrong.

How much do people genuinely believe we're going to get to spend on players from the new owners? We currently run at a pretty big loss each year and we know there are outstanding debts. With no obvious increases to revenue in the foreseeable future, how can we increase our costs further? Surely any injection of funds would cover operating losses and pay off debts? That is a good thing in itself and is hugely welcome. However, there's no indication yet that there will be a significant increase in the playing budget that people seem to be mooting. I'd love to be wrong but I don't see it.

Yes you have to think if Jim is offered the job does that mean there isn't going to be a bucket of money or he thinks he has gone as far as he can with Morecambe and all the stress and thinks he has more chance of progressing with a bigger club. Then if he doesn't get the job will the new directors take it that if he's looking elsewhere they're not going to support him anyway now . :o

If Jim is the man they go for it will be because they are scaling down the budget and looking for a Manager who has worked with next to nowt. His record for signing freebies and non league players is decent which will be in his favour. The Carlisle fans will see him as the cheap option and a lack of ambition on behalf of the beleaguered BoD's.

From TheTwoPointOne' Scottish football Blog' this morning :

English League Two club Carlisle are hoping to have Livingston boss David Hopkin in place as their new manager within the next 48 hours. Hopkin is out of contract at Livi after leading them to successive promotions and a return to the Premiership
