Scoreboard for 2018

Scoreboard for 2018

Postby Brian C » Thu May 24, 2018 6:09 pm

OK. we survived another year in the Football League. Now we can hopefully kick-on to future success on and off the pitch. Here's my contribution, a facelift for the scoreboard, which I think is clearer and easier to read. (piccys below of the 2017 screen and the new 2018 screen). Hope you like!

As Thommo has already scored against top teams (Arsenal, etc). I think I'll give him this one as well.
I was thinking you at first, but your ancient history now !!!

Why League 2? Why not be ambitious?

Great work Brian. Hopefully we'll have a full season of a working scoreboard this year 2, even if it does mean more work for you!

Except those of us who were born there, like Mrs A & I. Mrs A even used to go to Elland Road on occasion, living as she did within walking distance.

At least as many as hate Manure, surely, especially since every Leeds, Man Shitty & Liverpool supporter must, surely, come into that bracket. ;)

I wouldn't mind a new goal animation, if anyone fancies making one? Needs to be an animated GIF, no more than 30 seconds long, ideally 640x320 Rez. Please let me know if interested, Thanks.

I noticed that Cov had a sponsor flash up on the scoreboard every time the ball went for a corner.

Would it be possible to have the clock count on with tht added time instead of relying on the ref's watch which nobody has a clue of how far through the time is ? Just curious.

Don't think they are "allowed" to do that.... all scoreboards stop at 45.00/90.00 don't they cos it's down to the Ref, with his minimum and to make sure the ball is away from a dangerous position - unless you are Accy

I agree with Marky. I think it's actually Football League rules that you're not allowed to display the rundown of the time added on, partly, if not wholly, because the ref has some discretion for example for time-wasting, injuries, goals etc that occur during the added time, and if he allows it to overrun significantly because of that one set of supporters is likely to be baying for blood.

When the scoreboard was installed we were told we are not allowed to show a match time that exceeds 45/90 minutes by displaying additional injury time.
I cannot find it specifically in the league rules, but maybe section 34.4.4 (e) covers it?

34.4 Giant Screens. Except with the prior written consent of The League, giant screens or the like at a Club’s ground shall not be used to relay to spectators closed circuit pictures of the Match at which they are present. Any consent given under this Regulation shall be subject to the following conditions:
34.4.1 the screen shall be located so that it does not interfere with the Match at which it is used or distract the Players and Match Officials;
34.4.2 it shall be operated by a responsible person who is fully aware of the conditions covering its use;
34.4.3 the screen may be used to show live action and, when the ball is not in play, action replays of positive incidents; and
34.4.4 the screen shall not be used to show:
(a) action replays of negative or controversial incidents;
(b) any incident which may bring into question the judgement of any Match Official;
(c) the area of the trainers’ bench;
(d) until substitute boards have been displayed, pictures of any substitute Player warming up or preparing to enter the field of play; and/or
(e) any material which would tend to criticise, disparage, belittle or discredit The League, any Club or any Official, Player or Match Official or to bring the game into disrepute.

Fabulous work Brian.

I know getting that scoreboard working has been a real labour of love. Now it’s a real credit to you and the club.

P.S. I’ll brown nose even more if you can make that score happen.

Thanks Posh, I do it mostly as I really enjoy the programming challenge, and it's the only skill I can really offer to the club.
Hopefully it's looking better as time goes on, and I learn new programming techniques!
As the company that installed the New Scoreboard quoted £12K for software, that wasn't even as good as what we have! I believe we have the best software, which I can freely update at any time, and have saved the club a large chunk of money.
