Good piece.

They admit they know little about the club, but the figures add a lot of context.

The split of income is particularly interesting.

Matchday revenues work out to about £19 per head for a 26 game season or £16.50 for the equivalent of 30 games, which seems high as this will be net of VAT (?). Must include food, drink and programmes.

The extra £200k a year will undoubtedly help, so for the current year this plus say £150k for Barky will have narrowed the gap considerably.

Hospitality revenues I presume is match day plus facilities rentals for weddings, Christmas parties, room hire etc. Shows what a large amount of revenue this is, how much it’s dropped and the potential. It would be fascinating to know the operational costs and whether this breaks even. Cala thought not but this shows how much money can be made and is one of the few opportunities to grow revenue.

As for corporate / commercial I’m sure payments from former Directors - Nigel Adams, Graham Hodgson and Stephen Wright, through sponsorship will have all gone through this route. Over £1/4 million is a lot of cash but £50k will be last year of Globe deal (?).

Liverpool FC owner complaining about having to subsidise lower league clubs. Is this because of THAT tweet or just the PL drifting further away from the rest of football?

The same lower league clubs that gave the likes of James Milner, Adam Lallana and Jordan Henderson competitive first-team game time so that they could develop into the International-level, Champions league players they are today? Good one...

The wage bills of clubs in league 1 suggest to me that clubs like ourselves and Stanley would / will find it almost impossible to compete when it comes to wages. For me I'd rather flirt with promotion and become a major player in league 2 than get promoted to League 1 and find ourselves in even deeper 'sh@t' than we are now. We've only got to look at Dagenham to see what effect it did on their club. Promotion would be great but the cost would be far too high in my opinion. There is a saying 'better to have tried and failed, then never to have tried' but for me it's simply a no go area. I'd be more than happy to have a few successes in cup games maybe even another Wembley appearance and a long overdue FA Cup run than see us promoted and suffer big style.

I have to agree with all that. I'd rather we were a solid mid table L2 club with a decent cup run each year to provide the added interest/excitement. Going flat out for promotion is far too risky, even if new owners splashed the cash. We're already "punching above our weight" in L2, so finding ourselves in L1 with such small attendances and presumably limited funds could be suicidal. L2 security is realistically all we can hope for and if we can get a bit of a cup run and the odd televised match, that's the icing on the cake.

Accrington chairman Andy Holt has put up a great tweet about lower league finance and the impact of the new rules regarding the distribution of TV Money.

Yes, he's very active on there and answers many questions, even adds a few swear words where necessary

"I want the bond of trust between supporters and club to be strong so we won’t take risks with their brass"

"No point having principles in court being wound up for not paying bills.
Take it easy Tom"

"Actually @EFL are doing the exact opposite to help clubs do more on match day wxperience and enjoyment.
I’d also add that it’s not chairmen getting brass it’s clubs.
Professional clubs have to generate cash.
This selling your soul bollocks is just that Tom."

"If I said to our season ticket holders that the @CheckatradeTrpy money can be replaced by increasing season ticket prices by £40 all classes would that be preferred?
My sense is to reduce prices and increase value for money for our supporters, but maybe I’m wrong."

"Douglas, we are virtually all pissing money down a drain with owning clubs. We want them stable for fans and to have a future"
Enjoy yourself.... It is later than you think
