Yep, arranged because Scunthorpe United cancelled their pre season game at Alfreton.

THE Shrimps’ pre-season friendly match versus Bolton Wanderers scheduled for Tuesday, 17th July has had to be cancelled.

The reason for this is the Globe Arena pitch, which has undergone major refurbishment works over the close season, is not yet ready to host a football match. Over the past two weeks, the contractor has been back to site and further works have been carried out. Our groundstaff are working extremely hard to ensure that the playing surface will be ready for the commencement of the forthcoming season.

The two clubs have arranged an alternative "behind closed doors" game to be played at Bolton Wanderers’ training ground.

Anyone know what the problem is with the pitch? Is it a structural fault or just a lack of grass growth due to the weather?

Due entirely to the weather. My lawns haven't grown for the best part of 2 weeks when normally at this time of the year I cut ut usually twice a week. A significant number of lawns in our village and grass verges are no longer green but a brown colour due to the lack of rain. As for our club's pitch, better to have the pitch ready for the first home game of the new season than to risk damage just for a home preseason game.I suspect a growing number of games in the North will be called off due to pitch conditions. At least our club have reacted by arranging a behind closed doors game with Bolton at their training ground in addition to the game at Alfreton. JB's preseason schedule has not been duly affected therefore.

How can it be the weather when other clubs manage it? Bamber Bridge's wasn't too bad. We have sprinkler systems...

Indeed, it cant be all about the weather, they have had the company back more than once to have a look. The gaps between the rows of seeds were clear to see last week, all IMO of course.
