Oliver up front, on his own.
Morecambe nil then :? :? :?

I really thought pre-season, we were bringing in players who were attack minded and entertaining. This looks like last Saturday again. They'd better have a substantially different attitude to last week, that's for sure.

Evening, watching and listening from Lamma. Surely today Oliver will show us all what JB sees in him.

I was going to post that I really feel that both Mendes Gomes and Jagne should be given their chances. Let's face it - players younger than them played in the World Cup in Russia. Then I thought that I had better just check out their ages. Jagne was born in 1997, but I have now discovered (thanks to the MFC website) that Mendes Gomes was born in 1901. He really is doing well for his age!!

Seriously I guess that Andrew Tutte is not fit, but why not include these 2 youngsters plus our new forward from Shrewsbury (Leitch-Smith) right from the start and GO FOR IT.

F**k this "never too high never too low". Let's aim for the sky, and at least enjoy the attempt to get there.

Now watch us go and hammer Exeter, and I shall be eating humble pie.

Freez saying in the commentary that we're playing better than last week etc, but almost 40 minutes in and only one shot on target, where Oliver passed to their keeper instead of burying it. We've not scored in our last five league matches.

That was such a stupid push, absolutely no need for it.

Should be 1-0 up if we had a genuine striker / poacher in the side and a bit of common sense at the back.

Message to Mr Bentley!!! Please play a more attacking line up in the 2nd half and concentrate on trying to score more than being worried about stopping the opposition from scoring! ( which has failed already today )

Harsh on the lads who have been playing well, but that was poor by Cranston. Let the man past him and it looked like a push to me.

We certainly look good enough to get an equaliser.

Anyone else watching on iFollow see CRY in the scoreboard for Exeter?

Regardless of anything Exeter do, whether it was or wasn't a penalty, if we can't score goals, we will never get anything. In your post match interview, please ask Jim why he is sticking with one up front when we''re clearly not scoring goals.

Jim will get some serious stick tonight if we loose with that lineup. One up front at home words fail me.

The attacker got round cranston to easy last week for the fourth or fifth I'd lost count by then

We look as likely to score as someone on the internet being able to spell the word lose.

So we start the second half with the same team. Clearly no ambition; no idea.

Goodbye Jim, and thanks for everything that you have done in the past - but we want a future.

Does anyone remember what it feels like to score? Playing well counts for nothing when we can't create or finish chances

We were much better, fairly decent I thought, and were the better team for spells of the game. Oates and Leitch-Smith both looked dangerous and we had multiple chances in the last 20 minutes. I even thought Oliver played quite well, but he's clearly not capable of scoring so he needs someone with him. Sadly, even with all the chances we just don't look like scoring, and if we can't keep a clean sheet at the other end we're in trouble.

TBH I thought 1st half we played ok and should have bagged 2 goals from close range, one missed by Ellison and one by the best striker in the world Oliver.
Cranston beaten easy when he should have gone through and played the ball out but was beaten, don't think it was a penalty, the tide then turned against us.

2nd half we struggled as we should have come out and attacked or made changes to do this but we didn't, the best part of the 2nd half was the last 10 minutes when all 3 subs were on

MOM Wildig taken off, why? Oliver has had all last season to show us what he can do and he cant, someone please tell me why he still starts, he is useless.

we really need to start taking some points otherwise we are in trouble, not being negative but we really do need to start scoring and getting points and with Oliver in the starting line up and missing golden chances like today doesn't cut it. if we play the long ball like today did anyone see him win a header?, must of been few and far between.

I thought that this was a generally encouraging performance. The defence looked quite solid with the exception of Cranston who was a complete waste of time. The midfield covered a lot of ground and I thought Oliver had a good game, holding the ball up well and laying it off. It’s a pity he couldn’t take his chance. The trouble with Kev Ellison is that unless he scores goals his overall contribution is very limited. I would not start him in the future. All three subs had a good impact when they came on. We had 5 chances and took none, they had 1 which they scored from plus the penalty.

Much improved on last week but at times we still looked a bit toothless. We need to show so much more composure on the ball. When we actually got our foot on the ball, got our heads up and moved it around a bit we had our best period of play (second half of the first half). Oliver didn't have a terrible game (apart from the miss) but he didn't win much in the air, and the timing of his jumps for crosses was comically bad. He looked better when the balls aimed to him weren't aimless hoofs but ones directed with some purpose towards him, with people running off him. If we're going to persevere with 4-2-3-1 then we can't keep using Oliver. He's not a hold up player like Stockton, he can't trap the ball as well. He needs a partner to play off him and to take lay-offs from him.

If we want to crack on with 4-2-3-1 then we need to get the ball down and play a bit. If we want to go a bit more direct then we have to put two up front in a strike partnership, like Exeter did with Stockley and Forte.

I think the main point is that the formation Jim is trying to get us to play doesn't work for us. It is accommodating Oliver who isn't scoring and isn't bringing others into play. It also means others are playing out of their best position.

I agree... and very ironic that the match sponsor was Rod Taylor of Thornton Lodge! Either Oliver or Ellison should've been hooked at that point but oh no...

He was taken off because he was knackered, he seems to be a player who can only manage about an hour of effort. Also he did take a knock in the second half so will probably be rested for the PNE game to hopefully make him available for the Stevenage game.
Don't worry be happy!
