Non league hotel California

Postby Doonhamer » Sun Aug 12, 2018 9:36 am

It’s only 2 games into the season and the writing is on the wall. It’s the same old same old tactics that kept us up by the skin of our teeth and a helping hand from Coventry last season. Though I understand the fans that say we should stick together but look at the league minus 8 goals already no goals scored and the same shoulda woulda coulda excused. It’s time for a change as we are flogging a dead horse. Jim Bentley needs to do the honerable thing and walk away as Non league hotel California beckons.

Is it not a bit too early to call for his head already??
Give him at least 8 games in the league so the new players can gel into the squad!

Hi gigglinggoat thanks for the reply. I feel it’s not too early as this season is just a continuation of last with the same old tactics that do not work. It’s like betting the same horse on a replay and expecting a different result. Jim is stuck in a tactical replay and unsurprisingly getting the same result. The point of allowing the new players to gel is valid but if the tactics are flawed that makes no difference. Westgate wanderer makes the point that leave it too late we will be too far adrift and I have to agree that if that’s the case no manager will keep us up. Too many league teams are playing non league and unable to get back up. Morecambe F.C. will not be any different. That’s my fear. Jim walk away.

Fair points, the persistence with Vadaine, who is not a goal scorer, and Kev, who is but when he doesn’t score appears not to affect the game too much, is baffling with the new players available.
Definition of madness is repeating the same thing expecting a different result, not an Einstein quotes first thought, but it’s repeatable never the less.
Change is required. First eleven change for me.

I think we have to see where we are after five games if it's still the same a decision needs to be made leaving it Amy later and it will be to late.

They're saying the very same thing in Oldham and the guy has only managed two league games, easy for all of us to get disenchanted but both Jim Bentley and Frank Bunn are fighting against all the odds in keeping something alive that has a serious chance of dying at a moments notice.
Sadly those above who've created the toxic situation in the first place, don't have to take the shit these poor fellas receive on their behalf

Hello Oldhammade.
The point at Morecambe F.C. this situation has endured for 3 seasons and is still continuing. I do not consider myself toxic when I have an opinion based on observation at first hand into the performances of the team. Jim Bentley has achieved as much as he can at Morecambe and to be frank the battle he is fighting is to stay employed. If the performance of my team at work was as bad over a sustained period quite rightly I would either be disciplined or sacked so why is a football manager any different. Cant comment on Frankie Bunn other than good coaches do not necessarily make good managers nor do club legends but as someone new to management he deserves a chance.

Nobody knows this more than Jim, but his L2 record in 2018 has been beyond abysmal.

P23, W3, D12, L8 GF 17 GA28 GD-11.

That's a win percentage of 13% and is much lower than his roughly 30% since taking the helm.

We haven't won in the last 12 and have only scored 4 times, conceding 17. That quite clearly isn't good enough, and it's up to Jim and Ken to turn it around. Fail to do that and I'm more than sure they'll pay with their jobs.

Completely agree with all of this... the facts are there in black and white!
I hate when people say the negativity is a “knee-jerk reaction” and “we are only 2 games in” but this has been going on for the whole of 2018, and for the last few seasons...
How people can still back up Jim as doing a good job is beyond me. :x :o

since 2010 with our home record!! Geoff Stelling on Sky Sports highlights our record quite often.

The worring thing now is Away form whats been very good and kept us in the FL under Jim's reign, is now on par with our home form.

Yes, we are usually fast starters, which has been the main reason for our survival without a shadow of a doubt, but now the away record is abysmal too.

I know only 2 games in, but we need change!! and quick.

Give it a rest about changing, I know I keep on about tactics etc but at this stage in the season and only 2 games in, now is NOT the time for calling for managerial casualties. On field changes will happen if results don't improve as our manager determines what is his best 11 to suit the formation, but it's far too early for off the field changes.

Hi redrobo
Thanks for the post. I have to disagree though. The point is that Mr Bentley is not making changes and if he does uses the same old non working tactics. I refer to the action replay analogy used above. We need a change of managerial/ tactical thought processes and I am of the opinion that This manager was does not seem capable of doing. The stats that everyone in the know are quoting are not made up just to slag anyone off they are black and white fact and talk for themselves. I admire your loyalty to Mr Bentley but as the old cliche says no one is bigger than the club regardless of past endeavours. Jim if he stays will take Morecambe F.C. back into football obscurity and as a club they will not survive that. They are struggling now. To survive both as a club and financially the team needs success and Jim with his same old same old will not bring that. Too many teams have waited too long to change resulting in relegation. Change needs time to play out and maximum time must be given for this.

It’s always the same when you are new to something and you do not know anyone. The thread was having a big boys sensible conversation and along comes the joker who I assume his nom de plume is onomatopoeic.

Seemed to me

is backing for the manager.

Nom de plume eh? Great stuff.

Who in the thread has a name that could be described as "onomatopoeic"? If you're going to try and sound clever by using big words you should maybe know what they mean first.

You're right though, what he said was backing the manager. The reason for potato head's post was that the said poster isn't usually known for his support of the manager. It was a cheeky dig at RR, not you. Crossed wires.

Hi Shrimperteer
Thanks for the reply and the clarification. From my o level english I concede that onomatopoeia is a word that imitates a sound that it describes such as in boing or slap. My reference to potatohead though not describing a sound would suggest a personality trait. A bit of poetic licence that makes a point. See ya.
