Goerge Dawes, SV's, User Names

Postby Andy D » Mon Aug 27, 2018 3:26 pm

SV's vs Facebook, thought id change my user name, SV's as had critisim over the years about hiding behind user names unlike Facebook, hence the change.

Ive noticed since theres been no Political threads since Brexit and that these forums are slowly getting healthy and constructive again, and to be right its like an unwritten rule when you go out drinking, dont talk about work or politics, people just end up falling out.

Hope this encourages other people, i prefer SVs as you can quote people and have better debates, where as Facebook you've loads of posts going on at once with people repeating themselves.

So long George Dawes :|

Goodbye George Dawes, welcome Andy!

I must admit that I don't like Facebook for actual discussions, as comments get lost far too quickly. Within a day or so, a conversation is completely lost. So it's great for an immediate reaction, but not longer.

Perhaps other people might choose to do away with their anonymity and follow Andy's lead?

OK Keith (or is that not your real name? ;) ;) )

I must admit that when I joined SV everybody seemed to have a "user name" so I just went with Cyprus Shrimp as it seemed appropriate being a Shrimps supporter and living in Cyprus. There was no attempt to disguise my real identity, and in fact I now think of myself very much as Cyprus Shrimp.

I have steadfastly refused to sign on with Facebook and I have no intention of ever doing so.

I guess that some people have "user names" as a means of disguising their real identities, but without knocking Andy D in any way, I have no more idea who he is now than when he called himself George Dawes.

So please advise a total technophobe - what is the real relevance of this post, and what are you trying to achieve. Thank you.

By the way (as if anybody cares) I am perfectly happy to post my CV on here if you want. :D :D :D

I've no issue with people knowing who I am, and am quick to admit my SVs' identity when I encounter another SV I've not met before, so I'm not hiding behind a pseudonym. I do however quite like the thoroughly inappropriate monicker I've chosen, so I'm afraid it's staying. If I ever get round to having a name on the back of a replica shirt, rest assured that name will be Anderer, with my favourite (rather than lucky) number, so people can identify me.

There has been a lot of squabbling, upset and bad language recently on the Fans page, but it seems to have calmed down a bit since last Tuesday

I think this forum is dying on its arse tbh - it’s managed well, and there’s nothing wrong with it, but there’s been an irreversible shift in attitudes/habits online - changing your SV username wont change this. Online forums are quite a dated concept IMO, which also reflects in the people who use them (including me).

The Morecambe F.C. fans page on Facebook now has 2,000+ members, which is more people than we have supporters (who actually go to games, don’t bet on us to lose and openly take delight in our shortcomings). You seem to get a wider range of views from different ages of people, and more engagement in discussions.

I think where shrimpsvoices has its advantages is that you can view everything, and choose what and who you engage with - on Facebook somebody/something else decides what you see, which can mean you miss things that you’re genuinely interested in. It won’t have the quantity of discussion/debate - but it can have a better overall quality.... especially if it reverts back to being more light hearted and witty. Some people can take themselves a bit too seriously, especially when they should really be getting on with doing their odd jobs. ;)

Shrimpsvoices has always been a very well run forum (Cheers Keith) and truth be known most on here are top blokes with the odd exception
Andy (George Dawes) you have no reason to explain yourself to anybody and should have kept your name as it was, that said, Everyone is entitled to their own personal opinion, even if it is not agreed upon by some and that includes myself but in the main this forum should serve the purpose of promoting the greater good of Morecambe Football Club with its fans together as one.

As I am a John and there are probably dozens on here I'll keep the present user name. It's the name of one of the best dogs I ever had. Sentimental I know.

Its partly so i cant be accused of hiding behind a user name, I've been quite vocal over the years about the new Ground making my feelings known, aswell as team selections and Management.

Im quite happy for people to challange me on match day!

It was simply following on from Andy's change and I thought worthy of a thread. One of the criticisms of SV is the anonymity and allegedly it's one of the reasons that people prefer Facebook.

If people want to follow his path, now's a good time. But if they want to keep anonymous, then fine.

Andy, my name is Adrian and like you I wouldn't dream of hiding behind any name and as sure as I'm a Smith, I wouldn't be found wanting should the need arise.
Whatever is good for you is paramount without the need for any explanation, now get on and enjoy being on here and match days.

Don't tar me with that brush.....punkisdead was my son's user name and I haven't posted on it for about 5 years , I have posted exclusively as mrpotatohead since then and I don't give a toss who knows exactly who I am, Lee Clarke....and I'd change it today if I could remember my password.

I Don't think "Berlin Waller"will ever reveal his true identity.

Pitch forks at the ready!

I for one prefer to have a user name on here, rather than my real name. It's not for any specific reason, I just think online forums are better if you don't know who is behind the user name.
