Tell us what YOU would do Knightrider and we can then agree or disagree and then give our own thoughts and input.

How does that sound? :D

This thread was created in response to a member of the SV Management team, smart entrepreneur and business guru Posh's critical statement of the current leaderless MFC Ltd management -

Re: Business plan for Morecambe FC?
Postby Posh » Wed Sep 19, 2018 7:19 am

Everyone is right about Christie Park because no one knows and we will never know what truly went on. My understanding is that the loans that some but not all directors built up at Christie Park were paid back from the proceeds of the sale to Sainsburys. That inevitably reduced the sum that could be spent. The interest element is true but don’t spend what you haven’t got.

The fact is that PMG, Mark and Brian locked themselves away in an office at Riversway House near Greyhound Bridge and planned a ground with little or no consultation with fans or frankly anyone else, which is why we ended up with such a dog’s dinner. They could have gone to Burton, asked them for the plans, asked what would they do better again and for less money got a ground that’s been enough to support a Championship club.

They hired and fully trusted a group of Lancaster University undergraduates to do the full business plan for the 3G pitches, which turned out to be highly inaccurate; they served wild boar steaks in a fan’s bar because they completely and utterly failed to understand their audience and that we were at the start of the biggest financial crisis the world had ever known; they didn’t built any training facilities, despite loads of land; and whatever financial cushion was left was pissed away in the first season by Sammy McIlroy.

All this led to multiple bailouts by Nigel, Graham, the PFA and anyone else with deep pockets wishing to burn cash. It also led to multiple failed promises.

Given all that I have no idea why Diego, Abdullah and the latest owners still retain PMG. He has some hold on them that I don’t get - works for free? It desperately needs a change of direction because it seems rudderless and if it wasn’t for the likes of Toby, Gill and Mike O’Brien for the knowledge, continuity and professional expertise they provide I don’t know where we would be as a business.

So, simple question. Who is the Managing Director or equivalent of Morecambe FC?

P.S. Someone asked and Knightrider isn’t me (despite nicking my location tag!). Associating yourself with David Hasselhoff is not smart.

so once I've read his response here I'll lodge my 2p's worth to the thread question posed.

Hows that sound Seasider? :D

Bluntly? That sounds like.your usual repsonse. Pathetic. Why not for once in your life, don't copy someone else's conspiracy theories and tell us what YOU think. Or do you really need to hear someone else's reply before you have a clue what to type yourself?

Such a shame you're incapable of your own rational thought, you could be quite dangerous in the right hands.

I hope they do. Do they know you? Why not give them a call and invite them to read it? Better still, while you're on the phone to them, arrange a face to face meeting so you can put all your questions to them?

Start with 01524 411797, ask if you can be put through to either the new owners or a director who I am sure would be more than helpful to provide information to a supporter. Don't be too upset if they aren't immediately available, leave a name and number and I'm sure they will get back to you.

I sincerely hope you found this information useful, it will save you having to wait years for a serious answer on the forum and please do let us know how you get on and share your answers with us.

That would be great , as the new owners don't have a "past" with "Team SR" , so they don't have an axe to grind with each other

A bit crap to be honest.

You posed the question, "If you were....." etc.

Surely you should have started your post, "if I was a Director of MFC I'd (insert here)" and THEN asked others for THEIR input, surely?

That's not the way Stephen works. If you want to see where I dug up that name from, use the Advanced Search option top right. Use the username search field first for Truth and if you want a little more insight then search the same again for Trinity. Little left of their posts but the style and attitude is identical. I have no doubt.

Would you like me to call round Stephen and show you how to use the forum? You clearly haven't noticed you are also out of touch with reality. It's called British Summer Time, you've forgotten to change your forum clock.

No problems with the state of my mind but thank you for asking.

The Hoff has asked me to answer a question and I’m happy to do so.

Firstly, the question is wrong. A Managing Director is appointed by and reports to the board. If the board doesn’t set pay high enough, narrows the job description and doesn’t give sufficient freedom to make decisions then the question is irrelevant as nothing will get done or be achieved.

So I’ll change the question. If I was Jason and Colin the owners what would I do? Firstly, I’d clearly define board roles. Given I lived in Essex I would need someone locally to be Chairman. With the legwork being undertaken by paid staff I’d appoint someone as a figurehead with someone with a strong local reputation, who lived locally. The obvious person is Rod.

I’d then review the other board members and allocate roles that would look at strategy to improve the club. I’d then co-opt other directors with relevant experience to missing roles. None of them would be paid and any contracts with them that the club had in place would be made public. This would enable the club to bring on expertise either as directors or non-execs. In my view one crucial one is finance and another hospitality. The Trust should have at least two co-opted directors elected by vote of Trust members.

In the long-term I’d look to make the club fan owned on a variation of the socio model used by clubs such as Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund. It recognises a club’s need to seek outside expertise and investment but knows that money does not get a return. You end up with a situation where fans can vote for the club chairman on the basis of their plan for the club, not just the size of their bank balance, and there is the means to vote them out if they don’t abide by their own plan.

Next, I’d appoint a Managing Director. With a very clear mandate and targets / KPIs on income etc.

Build the foundations first and then make the changes.

Thank you for your positive interesting input and respecting the thread title.

My moniker was created more out of my name not the TV series Knightrider which I quite liked but I'm not a fan of the actor David Hasselhoff who appears to be friends with the worst MP Morecambe & Lunesdale has had in my lifetime in my opinion, Dismissive David Morris. So I'd prefer it if you called me by my moniker on this forum.

Sorry I'm not a corporate businessman but by KPI I assume you are referring to the term Key Performance indicator? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Performance_indicator

Its been a long working day and I'm pretty exhausted so will endeavor to submit my 2ps worth on the thread title tomorrow evening.

Kind regards

Well, I must say, I am enjoying this little stoush!
Brings back wonderful memories of CC et al, and
a very enjoyable Sunday morning I am having reading this thread.
I am impressed and always have been, with the intelligent,
Passionate arguments about the club we are forced to love!!

A very good morning to you all, from a rather cool but beautiful
sunny Sydney morning. Now I have some good news and some even better news.
I am planning a trip back next year, and the better news is I
have to be back in Sydney mid August. So we’ll only
lose our 1st couple of matches!!
( For people who aren’t aware , I am something of a good luck charm,

No, that infamy was at Gravesend, when they were still Gravesend and not Ebbsfleet, Aspers, being the Jonah that he is, decided at 6-0 down that if he left that would keep the score down. So he and I went to the pub down the road, where, Aspers will tell you, the barmaid wanted him!!
It's still one of only two times in 48 year that I've left early. I believe that we improved after we left, but we had downed a couple of pints with chasers by then, purely medicinal after that display!!
It ended 6-0 so he was right!!

I'd order some top of the line escort girls, buy one of these in Italy, and invite said escort girls to the castle...

What? In terms of football, you mean?

Hell if I know  I'd probably mandate some expert to do the job in my name. From my castle in Italy.
