We won...

Postby Freez » Sat Sep 22, 2018 5:27 pm

If we hadn't, it would be at best lively, and at worst suicidal on here and Facecloth!!

OK, not a great game but plenty of talking points.
Red card for Rose?
Tuttle looked a good signing?
One up top at home, is AJay the man?
Did Baz finish his crossword?

Macc are the second side to visit us and "Get it forward early" so to speak, what did we think of them.
Flemo's finish? Good, Great or lucky?

Makes a change from the usual depressing Saturday "banter"!!

A good result for us but we are still misfiring. Tutte had a promising debut and Fleming's winning goal was well taken. I despair at the management team's substitutions. There is almost a determination to play Oliver until he scores a league goal. I think we might have a long wait!

We beat a team below us, with an offside goal, who had ten men for 60 mins and there defender was strechered off with a head injury.
But a win is win and it’s what we needed.

Well that didn't take long to revert to type. Can't we try and find something positive to say. Even if it's only the fact we moved up one place in the table.

Wont get an easier team to play than that all season long in L2, lets not get that carried away.

Smith looked to isolated against the bottom team. in a 4-2-3-1.

Fleming deservedly Man of the Match even if he'd not scored, the goal was just a bonus for the Lad.

Why go to 442 after we take the lead?

Is Oswell injured?

Mac were awful and never looked like causing a threat. Yes we had more of the ball but we were the home side and they had a man less but we were still making hard work of it.

Why was LS upfront on his own against what's prob the worst team in the league.

The result buys Jim some time but we will see where we are after the next two games.

Do we use wingers. In the second half Mandeville seemed to be playing as one, but insisted on moving to the center. We should have been playing as wide as possible and stretching 10 men. As for them couldn't believe their man wasn't booked for nearly taking Kev's head off on the edge of the area.

Notts County even with a new Manager seem no different, we just need to keep our distance to the next transfer window.

Good to get the three points. Flemmo was excellent today. Do you think he was offside for the goal? I didn't. Fantastic run and finish. Good to see Tutte back. Let's hope he can keep fit. I thought Conlon had another good match. Generally though we looked low in confidence and short of ideas in the last third. What's up with Oldie?

If Broadway shrimp reads my post properly he will see several positives. I said it was a good result and Tutte looked good and Fleming took his goal well. I cannot pretend the substitution thrilled me as I cannot see the merits of a striker averaging one goal every fifteen games!

Apart from an unconvincing win this changes nothing. Beating a team 2-1 who are rock bottom and down to 10 men is not a reason to break out the Champagne and forget. The bottom line has not changed. Mr Bentley needs to leave. Ps was Mr Ince at the game or is that story a load of cow.

If you want to be realistic, you are bang on. Negative formation which screamed settling for a draw and the usual aimless passing. It does give Jim a tiny bit of breathing space but I do feel he did get the players to look for a goal in the 2nd half but the horrible time wasting for the next 10-15 mins gave an insight in to his mentality.

There were positives, Mandy looks like a right footed Twissy when he skips past players looking for a shot at goal. Flemmo rolled back the years but he was well offside for the goal, great finish. I think he was the only player in their half without seeing it again. Tutte looked like the General we need but well short of fitness and maybe a bit heavy. AJ is just class, an inspired signing. Great to have Sam back and a decent game for both full backs.

Rose seemed to lose the plot after Flemmo caught him with a high knee early doors and was a red card waiting to happen. 100% red card from where I stood. Fair play to the Macc fans for their applauding for Edgie and the same to ours when their lad was carried off.

A win is a win but means nowt if we get beat next week. Need to string some kind of positive run together before we get excited.

The thing is now today's won has probably bought Jim another 4or5 defeats before anyone questions his position again.

I'll wait till we see it again, but I thought Flemmo was in our half when the pass was played, so I thought it was a perfect run. Macc look dreadful. We weren't great, but hopefully some confidence building now. I do think we should have been a lot more adventurous and made an attacking substitution when Kenyon went off, but Tutt played well, and needs match time. A few people have mentioned Tutt's "debut" yesterday. Could I ask what mental trickery they used to wipe the Crewe debacle from their memory banks, because I can't!

I agree with all of this.

If Fleming was in his own half than he can’t be offside, regardless of position.

I was a little disheartened when I saw the line up with a lone striker, but AJ played the role quite well.

I thought our style of play was actually a lot better and quite entertaining. Short, swift passing rather than kick and hope was a pleasure to watch. Sure, it needs a fair bit of work, but the team will only get more proficient at it in time.
