Your opinions on Mandeville

I wonder on Saturday if it was the wrong decision to play Mendes-Gomes off the striker and Mandeville on the wing?

As said here, Mandeville isn't too hot on tracking back and I think someone somewhere mentioned he was acting as a roaming 10 when at Doncaster? Surely in AJ's absence it would have been worth playing Mandeville there instead of Mendes-Gomes? Give him a bit of free reign to be creative.

I think it would have suited Mendes-Gomes to be on the wing too after hearing comments about him looking a bit out of his depth. In the middle, you have to be so much more positionally aware in all directions and it can be really easy for the game to pass you by, especially if you're not experienced at the level in that position. On the wing, you have a a bit more protection positionally from the touchline and in terms of tracking back, you just need to show a bit of endeavour and willingness to get back and help your full back.

After his very impressive cameo out wide against Preston, surely it would have made more sense playing Mendes-Gomes on the wing and giving Mandeville a bit of creative license playing behind the striker.

Totally agree about the positions being wrong. Mandeville needs to in the middle of the park. He is wasted on the flanks. He spunks so much energy tracking fullbacks and wingers. I would love to see a MNF type heat map on him.

I am on holiday in the Lake District so I popped down to Morecambe to watch Mandy. I did my usual market research before the game " What do you think of Mandy"? Without exception "A touch of class" back came the answers. The supporters seemed to have really taken to him. He was MOM in the first half for me with some fantastic passing around the box. I recall a long cross field pass which was superb. When Morecambe kept Mandy in the game they played very well as a team but when he was away from play MFC were very poor. MFC were playing against 10 men for most of the game and should have won but just could not score. Mandy is a fantastic play maker but poor at tackling there is no doubt in my mind MFC are playing Mandy out of position on the right wing but that's football, we all have an opinion.

Mandy passed us as he walked off the field and he looked very down, quite upset, doesn't like losing, thats a good sign.

I haven't seen Mandy play for a long time but I was still impressed with him today. Best of luck but its going to be a struggle this season.

Worked his socks off again, shows passion when things go wrong but he must do half as much running again as some others, hope his enthusiasm continues

My Man of the Match today.

he did say in an interview this week he's happy playing out wide, so aslong as he's happy i suppose, also said we have some good players but just lack self belief.

A bit guilty of doing too much yesterday but to be fair, only AJ is on his wave length. Looks a bit too good for us and is turning in to the best player in the playground. Would love to see him and AJ up front as a pair.

Thats what i was saying, its just Mandy is supposedly a moody player, and he did say he's happy playing where he is, being allowed to run at people with the ball.

But i bet them 2 upfront in a partnership would be an absolute nightmare for L2 defences!

He is in the last chance saloon though so I can't see him trying to rock the boat. Rumours of bad habits, a poor loan last season and ended up at the smallest club in L2 so I can't see him complaining publicly. If it doesn't work out here for him, where does he go next? The lad has bags of talent and I hope he continues to shine but I also hope he doesn't lose team ethics and start doing it all himself. He could become another Richard Brodie if he doesn't get it right here.

For me a player with outstanding talent that we are to date not using him in a creative central role just behind the strikers that his skill warrants. Too often he was having to track back to get the ball rather than it being played to him from defence. Second half being stuck out wide he was a shadow of the player in the first 45. Play in the central areas where he can use his skill and dictate play and the strikers could benefit.

I agree with all the comments being made.

Mandy upset our manager at Donny(Ferguson) and look what happened to him, sent to Gillingham on loan where he spent most of the time on the bench. It was rumoured Fergie wouldn't even talk to him. When Mandy was in favour he was scoring lots of goals but then he picked up an injury, recovered but was soon out again injured. The goals dried up, upset the old manager, our new manager didn't rate Mandy and he is now at Morecambe. He is a kid in a mans game who's skills need nurturing. He is in fear of upsetting your manager because as you say he is in the last chance saloon. I hope my talking about Mandy you get the full picture and understand Mandy's position. He played his heart out yesterday and was distraught when he passed me coming off the pitch.

Get behind the kid and put pressure on the manager to play him more central because the team and results will improve, they couldn't get much worse.

I would like to add I am not related or connected with Mandy in anyway, I am just a very old football supporter who can see a gem when he sees one, or so he thinks.

You just repeated what we were all saying last week and I think the last chance saloon was my comment.

I think we all share your hopes Alick, it would be sad to see another young talent drift out of the professional ranks. I hope he takes his chance here and helps us win 4 games at least!

Well done Morecambe I was very pleased to see the result today.

I was at your game against Swindon and thought Morecambe should have won that game. I am sure the team will progress now the monkey is off their back.

Back to the post.
How did Mandy play? Has the manager played him more in the centre so he can contribute more and avoid him tracking back. I maintain he is a creative player who can unlock defences and is wasted out wide because he is out of play too much time. He will contribute far more just behind the front two runners but then again we all have opinions and know more than the manager, don't we, that's football.

Mandy should be a good addition for Morecambe because Donny are having a good run at the moment and I can't see him coming back.

Looking forward to your comments.

A different class again. I don't like him out wide but enjoy it when he cuts inside and curls one. Beats men with ease and has a great touch. Played a big role in the goal.

BW, that's exactly what I see in the kid. He is a gem and supporters should show that they appreciate his efforts on the pitch, just gently nurture him. I see him as a kid unable to get his point over to a manager without upsetting him, Mandy has to grow up.

He is a quality player and he seems to be enjoying being a regular starter.

I don't seem to get a bad comment on Mandy whether Morecambe win or lose! I hope Mandy knows this as it would boost his confidence I feel sure.
