As said here, Mandeville isn't too hot on tracking back and I think someone somewhere mentioned he was acting as a roaming 10 when at Doncaster? Surely in AJ's absence it would have been worth playing Mandeville there instead of Mendes-Gomes? Give him a bit of free reign to be creative.
I think it would have suited Mendes-Gomes to be on the wing too after hearing comments about him looking a bit out of his depth. In the middle, you have to be so much more positionally aware in all directions and it can be really easy for the game to pass you by, especially if you're not experienced at the level in that position. On the wing, you have a a bit more protection positionally from the touchline and in terms of tracking back, you just need to show a bit of endeavour and willingness to get back and help your full back.
After his very impressive cameo out wide against Preston, surely it would have made more sense playing Mendes-Gomes on the wing and giving Mandeville a bit of creative license playing behind the striker.

Totally agree about the positions being wrong. Mandeville needs to in the middle of the park. He is wasted on the flanks. He spunks so much energy tracking fullbacks and wingers. I would love to see a MNF type heat map on him.

Thats what i was saying, its just Mandy is supposedly a moody player, and he did say he's happy playing where he is, being allowed to run at people with the ball.
But i bet them 2 upfront in a partnership would be an absolute nightmare for L2 defences!

I was at your game against Swindon and thought Morecambe should have won that game. I am sure the team will progress now the monkey is off their back.
Back to the post.
How did Mandy play? Has the manager played him more in the centre so he can contribute more and avoid him tracking back. I maintain he is a creative player who can unlock defences and is wasted out wide because he is out of play too much time. He will contribute far more just behind the front two runners but then again we all have opinions and know more than the manager, don't we, that's football.
Mandy should be a good addition for Morecambe because Donny are having a good run at the moment and I can't see him coming back.
Looking forward to your comments.
