Vadaine Oliver

After all the stick this guy has taken I was really pleased to see him score today. No wild celebrations from him because he knows his scoring record for us is bloody awful. However that goal should do his confidence a world of good and hopefully he'll be able to build on this. The one thing about Oliver is that he gives it 100% and doesn't hide in games. Too many fans use him as the scapegoat.

Just hope his injury isn't serious.

Looked like his ankle, couldn't put weight on it, just hope it's only bruised and nothing serious.

I feel his performances over the last few games have been good, working hard and making a nuisance of himself, positivity in his body language. Really happy for the lad, that he managed one in the bag today, it was due. Hope his injury doesn't keep him out too long, and he is able to build on today with a few more.

He was great Tuesday and today, gutted he went off injured. On another note AJ man of match ? Mandy was surely?

In my mind, AJ was well down the list! I would have given it to Tutte, Mandeville, Oliver ahead of AJ. But it was good that we had so many positive performances to choose from!

As a big critic of Vadaine Oliver I have to agree his last couple of performances have been better and he seems to have worked harder. There was an inevitability about his goal- play him often enough and eventually he will score but his goal return is still very poor. What a cross it was for his goal! Personally, I would prefer to see Oswell given a decent run in the team to allow him to get used to the pace of league football. A few minutes here and there are not enough and are not fair to the player if he is to adapt and become an effective league player.

Big V did a massive job for us yesterday. He kept two massive Centre backs busy all game which allowed others to get a bit more space in and around the area. Great to see him score a goal but his influence on the game was bigger than that.

In my opinion, Vadaine was handed a poisoned chalice last season. Played up front on his own more often than not with nobody to lay the ball off to. You can't blame him for that. This lad can play and I'm glad that at last he has people like Captain Oates and A-Jay to be a foil for him. He looked really hurt to me yesterday and I hope he's ok. I'm more worried about Zak MIlls, personally. He's too physically small to be an effective full-back and he is reluctant to put in a tackle early doors. I thought he was poor at Grimsby and it was his fault that they scored their winner yesterday. That said, he made a great cross for Oliver's goal and I think he would be better suited as a wing back, which seems the be the position he tries to play most of the time in any case.

Totally disagree with the Mills comment. I think he is class. He has a footy brain and puts in great effort. His use of the ball is good and is a threat when crossing. You mention a poisoned Chalice, being a full back for Morecambe is the definition of that. Doubled up against time and again with no support from a winger or a midfielder.

Have to agree. Definitely the best right back we've had at The Globe, and far superior to Beeley. Other than McGowan who was competent in the role, all others playing there have been weak.

I thought Vadine looked uninterested and wasn't in my opinion giving it 100% in the first 45 but then in the second period showed a complete reversal with a lot of commitment and energy putting their dual centre backs under constant pressure. Just hope his goal can do wonders for his game, but in JB's interview he says that as long as Vadine continues to put the opposition centre backs under pressure it will lead to those around him capitalising on his effort.

His injury will probably see a change up front with Oswell given an extended run to show what he can do, providing he gets the service that he needs which saw him grab 25 goals for Stockport mainly with his head but we must improve our crossing into the box which at times are over hit and improve our threat at corners.

Well you know what these decorators are like - miss everything

Vadaine looked really sore as he went off, it's been good to see him getting more involved and was pleased to see him get his goal.

Mandy literally pops up left, right or centre, also has the job of taking free kicks at the centre line, then running to take the resulting corner from either side

I agree with others that he’s played loads better and deserved his goal. However, for me, when a pass comes into him with his back to goal, he’s got to hold up the ball better, then lay it off and make a run. Too often, even on Saturday he’ll try and trap it and it’ll take a few touches to get it under control or have a heavy touch. If he’s not going to score lots of goals then he has to be brilliant at holding the ball and knock downs. For me he’s still a long way from it. I’m not saying Oswell is better but his first touch on Saturday was with his back to goal just over the halfway line. One touch trapped it tight, held on to it while he waited for support and drew a foul for a free kick.

I'm so pleased for Oliver getting another goal today, he's took a lot a crap off people on social media.

I feel he was doing an impossible job as a loan Striker in our side, all he's been crying out for help and now he as that in Smithy who bounce off each other.

Like others now, looking forward to watching games. :)

I’m very pleased for him too. On his goal, it was a really well thought out corner routine. We had two runners draw the crowd away from Oliver to leave him in a 1v1 aerial challenge. In that situation he’s almost guaranteed to win. Very good to see us utilising his aerial ability properly, rather than just pumping aimless long balls at him.

As a critic big style of Vadine gives me a lot of pleasure and a red face t o say well done on today's performance. Just want him to be build on it and proves fickle doubters like me oh so wrong.

For me, the big lad is now just going from strength to strength. He put in a proper shift today, played well, and duly rewarded with another good goal. I am confident that his name is going to appear on the score sheet plenty of times in the future. Well done to him for coming back battling through the negativity.COYS

Agreed. It can't have been easy for the lad but he's kept at it and hopefully he's turned the corner. People who think he's no better than Conference North think again.

Vadaine Oliver certainly seems to play better with Ajay up front with him. He needs to continue scoring regularly if he is to silence his critics- his goal return over his career has been poor and at times his first touch is poor but yes, good to see the improvement in his performances and long may it continue.

If he can continue to make spaces for others to get in and score it's a big plus for the team.
