He needs to continue scoring regularly if he is to silence his critics- his goal return over his career has been poor and at times his first touch is poor but yes, good to see the improvement in his performances and long may it continue.

If he can continue to make spaces for others to get in and score it's a big plus for the team.

Could it be that this is the role that Jim and Co always saw for Oliver but have never been able to get the right players alongside him to capitalise on his flick ons which in fairness are not as wayward as they used to be or is it that players are more alert to what is going to happen positionally than previous.

Does anyone think that its possible that the people that were posting quite nasty stuff about the lad were talking out of their a##es and know f##k all about footy??

I'm expecting the club to get a call off Mr Southgate soon as his goals per games ratio is amazing! :o

I'm really delighted for the lad. You can't take it away that it was so frustrating watching him struggle for months, but he's started to show us why Jim kept faith with him for so long.
This new style of play that we've been trying this season is beginning to gel and big V.O. is showing why he is the ideal striker to have up front. With a player of Liam Mandeville's obvious outstanding quality, the way Jim has been setting things up and working on, is absolute genius.
Kudos to Jim for changing things around and providing exciting, short tippy tappy footy that is now paying off.

Fair comment. I criticised him a couple of times and as you say...know f@@@ all about modern footy, as my favourite Morecambe players of all time were Larry Milligan, Tibor Szabo, Peter McDonnell (because I watched him also when he was with the the former, great, Rangers), Keith Galley and Barrie Stimpson.

No... it was the fact he was bloody awful, not scoring, not being a team-player, not putting effort in etc... The fact that Jim kept starting him upfront on his own instead of others just made it worse...

But, long live this NEW Vadaine! He’s been doing excellent for us, a great focal point of the team, rather than a target man. He’s putting huge shifts in every time he comes on to the pitch, and goes off the pitch having left everything he possibly had on it.

Brilliant V, keep it up please! 8-)

The nasty stuff was completely unfair and unMorecambe.

However, the criticism was fair. His career shows a goals per game ratio that’s half of even Jordan Burrow and at a least one season of that epic drought in a lower league.

Ah, I hear you say, what about partnerships? A Keegan needs a Toshack etc. I agree some players with poor records will thrive alongside better players. However, York fans say he didn’t help the likes of Jon Parkin and didn’t get many assists.

Jim though is confident that he’s the man and hopefully the likes of Mandeville - two assists for him - and Ajay can keep getting some extra out of him for the rest of the season.

It has been good to see his couple of headed goals and a better workrate but we must remember there have been plenty of games where he hasn't seemed to be trying very hard and lots of games where his first touch has been awful. His goal return has improved but is still very poor. He is being provided with better service but now we need to see if he can score with his feet!

Chatting with a couple of Carlisle fans in the boozer on Sat. Unfortunately, they didn’t have a good word to say about him. Maybe others would have a different opinion??
