O/T Internet Security

AVG want me to pay £60 for 12 months Internet Security. Stuff that ...

Any FREE Security that anybody can suggest as an alternative...

I had Avast for years and years, did a great job until I decided to have a 60 day free trial of their premium internet security with cleaning tools that speed up your p.c
One click and it totally destabilised my Windows, short cuts not working, would boot up and ended up paying 60 quid to put it right and in the meantime I bought a Galaxy tab 6 for use until it was returned.

The moral of the story is to either chance it and pay nowt, pay up and be sure or do what I did and f*ck it all up by having little knowledge and paying both time wise plus a hefty chunk of brass

What is annoying is that to 'hook' me i only got charged £15 last year but now they want £60. I've no problems with what was provided but simply can't afford to pay £60.....I've made contact with them but they will not budge.... hence why i'm looking elsewhere and possibly a free deal...

I used to use AVG but when my laptop went in for repair the guy told me about bitdefender. It's still free I think and seems to do the job.

One of the important things is to ensure any previous antivirus software is full removed before adding anything new.

Antivirus is important but also look at VPN if you ever do online banking or shopping via public WiFi. If you go down the VPN route, then definitely purchase software rather than free stuff. Personally I use Nord VPN for when I’m in hotels etc.

Another vote for AVAST - I have used the free version for at least the last 10 years and always found it to be good for keeping viruses at bay. But don't pay for the premium version!

I also use the free version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, which has also served me well for several years - that deals with spyware and adware - needs to be scanned manually every so often.

These two free packages work well together and have been recommended to me several times by IT consultants and computer repair places.
