1700. From what I've heard they've sold out 500 seats in the main stand and are now getting 1'200 for the away terrace. Good few quid for the club.

Such a shame that it is a dead rubber for us. I cant see many home fans turning up for a 'meaningless' game - maybe 400 or so? Whereas if we were still in with a chance of progression maybe around 1000 of home fans would turn up giving a healthy attendance.

Regardless whether you agree with this competition surely the fact that our opponents on the night are prepared to travel in their numbers to support their club should see us do the same for our team on this occasion.

I have not said that I disagree with the competition but the fact that it is a meaningless game because we are OUT. The game against Sunderland is a dead rubber for us.

Given the fact that we SHOULD be fielding a second string team in a meaningless gamr how many home fans do you expect to turn up?

As said if the game was of importance to us I would expect a good crowd.

I'd expect all the self-appointed "true fans" to turn up. Otherwise they're hypocrites. They're the ones who criticise others for not attending every match or daring to criticise Jim etc, saying that "true fans" would always support the club. Regardless of whether you think the trophy is pointless or unworthy, the fact is YOUR CLUB, of whom you claim to be a true fan, need your support - you are damaging your club if you don't turn up because the club will make a loss if too few attend, due to the costs of staffing, security, etc. If you really are true fans, you'd turn up for all games to support your club. Sorry rant over, but hypocrites really bug me with their virtue signalling and holier than thou attitude.

This is actually incorrect. Clubs can't make a loss in this competition, any shortfall will be made up by the EFL / Checkatrade Trophy as per their competition rules. The very worst we can do out of a Checkatrade game is break even.

It goes both ways though doesn't it. How else would you suggest those that don't agree with this competition go about trying to get it changed?

Plus there are number of factors why they'll sell a lot of tickets. When you're a club that size getting away tickets can depend on how many loyalty points you have. This is a cheap, easy loyalty point to get.
Plus it's a new ground to tick off for their fans, so that's always going to be a draw.
Plus it's looks like they're only going to be in this cup for one season so the fans will enjoy it, especially as they're one of the favourites to get to Wembley.

It's a good chance for the club to make a bit of cash but I can understand people not wanting to attend and wouldn't think any less of them because of it.

With the incentive of a trip to Wembley for the Finalists.

Who seriously in their right mind thinks that Premier Greed "B" and Under 23 sides (and selected teams at that. They've not all agreed to enter the competition) should now be allowed to play in this competition?? Seriously ???

It's become a joke of a competition now. I for one enjoyed and liked the old format when it was purely League 1 and League 2 clubs involved.

Neil, to quote you on another thread: "yawn". You know why many don't attend these fixtures, and frankly for us it's enough finding the money for the season tickets each year. Since we both got made redundant, we don't tend to attend any cup games, not just tinpot trophy ones.

A couple of posters have mentioned/alluded to that we might field a weakened team for this fixture, driven by the fact that we are out. Jim can make a few changes to the squad (if we have enough players to do that given our current injury list) but the format of the competition dictates that clubs in Leagues One and Two can't make wholesale changes.

EFL clubs must field a team containing at least four players in the starting outfield 10 that started the preceding league game, or will start the league fixture following the tie. Failure to do so could result in a fine of up to £5k.

Compared to other clubs, I think our general home support has held up quite well in this competition relative to home attendances for league games.
