Striker(s) needed

Striker(s) needed

Postby redrobo » Thu Jan 10, 2019 3:54 pm

I'm sure I read somewhere that we had agreed a deal for an experienced striker but to date no news which in view of news about AJ becomes an even greater priority than before.

Ideally a couple would be welcome but at the very least one is urgently required to supplement our existing striker(s).... :(

Hopefully some positive news on this subject will be forthcoming in the hours leading up to the squads departure for Exeter.

At least the news about Sutton and how he sees his role in improving our game management is one bit of good news. :)

Good result today a point away from home at Exeter!

However with Oswell & Piggot gone and Smithy & Olivier both injured, its worrying with us now being 4 points away from the drop zone. :|

Patience, patience. I'm sure Jim's on the case and will be aware more than anybody about the need to get more strikers in. There are still 19 days before the window closes. I say start worrying if nothing has happened in the next 2 weeks :)

This Change of formation with 3 decent C/Bs and Wing-backs providing the width could now be the answer with this group of players.

Maybe we only need to sign up 1 more player, a decent Striker to have a good run of results.

Agree...but for wing backs to be successful they need to provide the ammunition for the striker(s) to do the business. Now for me that needs for them to be more accurate in providing crosses into the box for the striker(s) to be more successful in scoring with their headers. Obviously we then need to have a striker(s) who has had success in the past at doing so..... ;) ;) ;)

Reading the Wrexham forum it sounds as though Oswell is being starved of service.... :o

Interesting what you report from the Wrexham forum RB. I wonder if Preston will have a similar problem with Stockley - a striker who feeds off good crosses in a side that won't necessarily provide that, based on what I have seen of Preston this season.

Cole Stockton, too, while being a good player, seems like something of a panic loan. He was most successful with us as a lone front man, using his strength and technique to keep hold of the ball and bring others into play. Thought he looked useless at Carlisle deployed in what was quite a fluid front line.

Closer to home, I think the service point still stands. If we take a Miller/AJ comparison, since Jim has often compared them and regards them as very similar, the main difference is that Miller had Devitt/Barkhuizen/Mullin supporting him. Reckon even I'd have knocked in a few goals if I had those three setting me up  AJ doesn't have such players lined up like so. Perhaps we could have worked a 4-4-1-1/4-2-3-1 with Mandeville at No10? May have been akin to the Devitt/Miller combo. All a bit late now though unfortunately...

Sounds as though the agreed deal for a striker as predicted by Jim has not materialised. An update would be welcome as to what has happened but any news regarding our search for strikers without giving away names
would be appreciated.

I spoke to Jim before the game on Saturday and he said that whilst the deal for the new striker had hit a snag, he was still hopefully he will sign.

Cheers for the reply. Still hopeful that a deal will be sorted before the weekend.
