Repeat of Sat defensive display, and they won’t be scoring past us. Also a couple of poor results for them recently away from home. Stevenage 0
Strike force weakened, but still enough poke. Morecambe 2
2-0 win The Shrimps. Come on lads.

I've seen them referred to as Cheatenage on here for well over a decade now. Could anyone enlighten me as to how they got this nickname? Was there just one match where they dived a lot or was it something else?

As for my prediction. I'm going with a very defensive 1-0 win for The Mighty Shrimps.

Cheatanage harks back to the Graham Westley days when they adopted a win at all costs mentality and took gamesmanship to a new level. I don't think we particularly suffered as a result but Accrington certainly have never forgotten their antics in a couple of play off games and to this day harbour animosity against them. Westley has long gone of course but the Cheatanage title seems to have stuck.

Joe, don't know how many times you've seem them play at the Globe, last time they could have got 4 gold medals for simulation.

As for the result, depends on the strength of the ref. Shrimps 2 Cheatah's 1. Shrimps to come from behind again.

The sobriquet Cheatenage or in some circles Satanage, has been used for well over twenty years. It originated on the message board "ConfGuide" when they had won the title in the conference and didn't go up, as they had spent piles of money but were not well liked by most teams fans. The perception was it was just throwing money at it. Not unlike, Fleetwood and currently Salford. With players like Barry Hayles , Efy Dodje and Adam Miller on silly money, they all moved up at least two or three divisions in the end. Their chairman, on his first visit to Christie Park, was on the pitch before the game, counted the seats in the stand, we only had 950 at the time, promptly reported us to the league who fined us and said we need to rectify this and have 1000 asap or we would be kicked out.
Hence the hasty seat replacement with the ex Wembley rows being purchased.
So not a nice club basically.
They then did appoint Westley but this was way after they were christened Cheatanage, but that hasn't helped.
However, on the 48 hour challenge, the fans stayed at the ground until 10pm on a Sunday to welcome us as we were well behind schedule and gave us a huge bucket collection for Brain Tumour Uk and a load of stuff to auction, and were a credit to themselves and the club.
So its not the fans!!

Wasn't there some antics in the 2 legged FA Trophy Semi Final against them some years ago too ..... ??

Didn't Hodgy somehow manage to get hold of Westley's mobile phone number once upon a time and shared it around so some grief could be given to him??

Or did I dream that........??

Thanks for the various history lessons. It's got too the point where I read the word "Stevenage" as "Cheatenage" in my head so it's nice to finally know why!

I'm getting a bit concerned here as nearly everyone is going for a home win. When this happens we usually lose so, for the good of the club, I am going change my prediction to an away win. 1-2

Too much optimism. I'm with black morse on that score, so 0-0 again.

Both Mrs O and myself are in agreement, which is slightly worrying. 2-1 Shrimps win.
