O/T Should members of Royalty be above the law?

Postby redrobo » Sun Jan 20, 2019 1:30 pm

Just thought it's time to have some thoughts away from football.....

If it was you or I we'd be prosecuted for not wearing a seat belt when driving. Should the Duke of E be different.... :?: :?: :?:

Admin can delete this thread if they wish. No problem as I'm probably on my way to the Tower... :o

Seemingly he has been given "words of advice" as they are acting on a photograph as opposed to being 'caught'.

"This is in line with our standard response when being made aware of such images showing this type of offence,"

Check the law before you post crap like this. If you drove around Sandringham as he did, the police could do no more to you than they have him. Private property, you could break the land speed record and get no more than a stiff telling off.

Sorry popcorn. According to news reports Phil the Greek was seen on a road near to the entrance to the Sandringham estate so therefor on a public highway and not in the estate. You owe someone an apology and would you like cream with your humble pie ?

"According to news reports". Show me evidence of the Duke driving on a public road without a seatbelt and I'll apologise. The only evidence online at the moment is of the Duke on private property where the police have done all they can.

You can't be prosecuted without evidential photos. Hearsay and paparazzi photos are not evidential. He was treated like you or I would be.

I'm not saying he's not an idiot driving without a seatbelt on any road but the law requires evidence that will stand up in court. It doesn't exist. He hasn't been treated any different which is the whole point of RedRobo's argument.

Try looking at the bbc, sky news, itv, cnn any newspaper you care to read. Is that enough. I am not saying he has been treated differently than you or I as all police officers have the power of discretion but shall we say some get more discretion than others. The previous post is correct. The monarch and only the monarch is above the law as they are the law that’s why princess Anne was convicted some time ago for what I think were driving offences

No. The point being made is the same evidence posted about me or you would result in prosecution. Wrong.

Now now folks not worth a slanging match. My question was based on media reports and photographs taken on entry to the royal estate. Not sure if it was private road or not.

Good to have a topic for disagreement on other than football.

Your post wasn't a question, very unusual for you but it was a statement. On what is your statement based?

"If it was you or I we'd be prosecuted for not wearing a seat belt when driving."

Popcorn I take it by the lack of reply your discussion is based on opinion as it would not be a problem to declare your area of expertise. That’s fine but can I point out that I agree with both of you and that’s why I pointed out about police discretion. The law is not black and white but red orange blue green and every thing in between. That is why 2 people committing the same offence may result in both , one or neither being charged or found guilty as the police magistrates and jury,s take circumstances into account. To be honest who cares half the world is starving has dirty water no healthcare and we discuss this trivia. We have more important things to give opinions on. Saying that thanks for giving us an opportunity for yet another wind up. Take care all and popcorn and RR it doesn’t matter b

A bit more respect for Phil the Greek please (or Keith as he’s known in Private Eye).

He reflects everything that’s great about post-Brexit Great Britain. A high calibre racist, happy to offend anyone and thinks he’s above the law. Also shows the way for democracy by being married to the head of state who was chosen not by proportional representation or popular vote but by the womb they came out of.
