Interest in Sam and Gomez

Interest in Sam and Gomez

Postby redrobo » Sat Jan 12, 2019 12:39 pm

On Radio Lancashire Sport last night Jim was suggesting that there is interest in both Sam and Gomez from a number of clubs and wouldn't be surprised if something happened within the current transfer window.

Whilst I would suggest nobody would be surprised at Sam moving on (assuming that the money is right and that we don't let him go on the cheap) I 'm a but surprised about Gomez because although he's an excellent prospect he's still very much a rookie at EFL level and along with Jagne they both could be worth a bob or two maybe next season after having gained more experience in out league.

As for Sam, it would be excellent if we sold him and for the buying club to loan him back to us for the rest of this season...assuming that somebody comes in with a sensible offer of circa £500,000.... :?: :?: :?:

Gomez isnt exactly a first teamer so its no big deal.

However Lavelle leaving could harm our chances of L2 survival, unless we recived a decent transfer fee(six figure sum)where Jim could bring in more players in this transfer window.

The way Jim was talking he could well be more than just a bit player before too long. He obviously sees the potential in him that quite a few of us recognised last season when he was outstanding in the reserves.

The same applies to Jagne who had if not been for his injury would in my opinion already be established in the first team.

Given he's tied up in a contract for another year, I'd say a six-figure sum would be the bare minimum for Sam. I'd expect over £500,000 for a player of his quality and age, wouldn't be surprised to see a Championship club come in for him.

As Andy D says losing Sam now could be disastrous. Even if we get a 6 figure sum Jim would still struggle to find a replacement. Our defence is good now.....that could tear a big hole in it.

Could always be a sale with an agreement to loan him back to us for the rest of the season? Would be a win-win: we'd get a much-needed boost to the coffers and keep Lavelle, they secure their player and let him play guaranteed first-team football for the rest of the season.

That's the ideal scenario for me.

I could be wrong(usually am,) but I think plenty of MFC fans would absolutely take that. We definitely don’t want big Sam to go, but it is inevitable.

The perfect scenario is for the buying club to loan him back to us for the remainder of the season but that's up to our negotiators to put the case forward for such an arrangement. One that is becoming more and more used by buying clubs who can see the merit in such an agreement.

My worry is that very little of any fee received would be re-invested in the team.

If as has been stated ( in my understanding ), that all debts and overdrafts had been written off and we are on a stable financial footing, then I cannot see any reason for it not to be.

The "debts" may have been paid, but we still have to account for the £40K a month we will be losing.
The £500K would basically keep us afloat for another 12 months, unless of course a stadium sponsor lands on our doorstep from Worcester

Sure it was said £60.000 Globe Construction agreed to sponser the Ground with it's name?

Not a right lot, thats if that figure is true.

Although things are a lot better , 2 charges with Barclays including a Debenture were satisfied last week according to Companies House , there are 5 charges still outstanding. 2 are former directors Peter Cross and Graham Hodgson , one is for Barclays Bank , one is for Bay Consulting Group and the final one is Mayfair Finance.

Yikes, we are cursed this season with injuries. Hence I posed the question about Adam Campbell in the other thread. Something would appear to have gone on behind the scenes but we surely need him now. Threadbare doesn't begin to describe it.
