Question regarding 'new' training facilities

Just in case some missed my reply to Lee's comment about training facilities I think a new thread on this subject is worth creating.

Certainly a major contributing factor in our performances season after season for me.

If you recall I asked at the Fans Forum what are the club doing to improve what is a sorry apology for training facilities remembering that over 12 months ago that i said that come the bad weather we'd be in trouble which at the time i got shot down in flames by a club official. The answer we got at the Forum was that the club were looking at a new facility or arrangements as a priority which lead me to suggest that we looked outside of the area for a suitable alternative even going to the extent of approaching PNE to seek a deal where we could make use of their Springfield''s site in Preston with a view to taking it over as and when PNE move to a new training facility that has already got planning permission for I understand.

If no suitable area can be found in the Morecambe / Lancaster areas then we have to look outside which brings into the catchment areas Garstang, Fulwood and Broughton but as suitable land may not be available without a premium price being attached, it makes the recent announcement by our owners of looking for some kind of arrangement with a Rugby Club of interest.

Unfortunately as like so many other issues where some communication form the owners would be welcome this particular suggestion appears to have not at the moment come to any conclusion but we live in hope ....as we continue to do so particularly the on going saga of the improvements to the former Omega stand.

... and Jim stated that he preferred very much not to have the training facility at the Globe, as match day wouldn't feel 'special'.
I read elsewhere that why not use Skerton school, it's not being used and there is plenty of grass, maybe if we threw 'them' some dosh that might be an option, unless they are worried about keeping it secure for overnight 'parking'?

Big waste though, it's a massive area..

The team did train at Worcester Warriors on the way to Exeter, shame our owners didn't buy Wigan Warriors instead

Am I on my own in thinking the club have been fortunate to be given Turners? It was a field used by local kids to play footy on(i know i did) but is now totally fenced off. Do the club pay rent for the use of it? Yes it floods but it is 200m from the sea.

Wouldn't it have been a good idea that when we paid for the relocation of Westgate Wanderers that part of the deal would be for Mfc to be able to use it for training on.

May I refer the honourable gentleman to my previous post about 3G pitches. In the documents from the Council's pitch strategy the condition of the Westgate Wanderers pitches are described as 'poor' and overused.

From experience the fields are completely open to the elements and is horrible in winter. The pitches aren't in a great state and there are limited facilities.

I agree though that it would have been sensible to spend more money and make it a joint facility for training and the club. Build better facilities and planted some trees to give some protection and cover. What a surprise that the Chuckle Trio who worked on the new ground didn't think of basic things like training!

I don't like to keep using Accrington Stanley as a comparison, but as a club which has been similar in size to us for long enough it's the best I can come up with. They still don't have their own training base and in recent seasons have used Rolls Royce Sports Ground in Barnoldswick, Queen Elizabeth Grammar School playing fields in Blackburn and Wilsons playing fields in Clayton le Moors. Remarkably similar to us with Turners playing fields, Morecambe High School playing fields and the College. In fact I would say we have slightly better facilities. I don't see them bleating about it, they just get on with it and keep on winning! I feel you could put our current set up in a state of the art training facility and we wouldn't improve much, if at all. In my opinion the problems lie elsewhere as I've mentioned in other threads. However I don't see much changing for the foreseeable future so we may as well just try supporting them as best as we can and once again hope there are two teams worse than us.

Look at Blackpool as well their facilities are shocking wasn't their last Manager even paying out of his own pocket to hire somewhere.

Yet it no fans, no training facilities they keep on doing quite well not sure how they keep it going with all the off field problems but they do.

Same across quite a lot of the North Lancs League I believe sir.

In another league, NINE players left Kendal Town yesterday.....due to non payment of wages.
