I'd assumed it had already run out. The director resigned Christmas 16 at the height of the Diego fiasco, and was quoted at that time in his resignation announcement as saying he'd continue his sponsorship to the end of that season. Presumably, if no one else has sponsored it, they'll leave the signage as it is rather than removing it and having none (in the say way the Globe is still called that despite no sponsorship for several years). Cheaper to leave alone rather than incur costs of rebranding for nothing.

Also quoting from a different thread:

cyprus-shrimp wrote:If you listen to what Jim has to say (and I agree with most of it), then massive amounts of money are not necessarily the answer. The passion and feelings for OUR club can take us forward.

But we need massive amounts of money just to stand still. We're making losses of £600-£700k per season and that's how things stand. To improve the stadium or Jim's budget, someone would have to pay in that ON TOP of the £600/£700k, so realistically you're looking at a buyer committing to £1m per year for a few years to turn the club around until the attendances rise and other income streams start to come on. That's on top of what they'd have to pay the outgoing directors/Abdul to clear some or all of their loans. So, unfortunately, yes, massive amounts of money are needed to progress.

Which is why it is so incredible that we can't sell sponsorship at all? Is this a failing of the club or simply the economic climate? Surely there must come a time when 'someone'/ANYONE would pay something for the sponsorship? Okay, there is a point where you don't want to completely de-value the brand by giving it away, but on the other hand, there can be secondary benefits from doing exactly that, to get interest (and some cash, no matter what).

The Heart re-brand doesn't appear on The Visitor web site. I'd have thought the Heart management would have been happy to have photos etc and get the press to cover it? That get's it in the paper, in turn, making it easier to sell advertising & sponsorship at the ground going forwards. And, it is more coverage of the club. If Heart management think our commercial team will push their brand for them, they are more likely to want to engage with us in the future. If all they get from the next couple of months is a new hoarding, then their what's their incentive to even maintain that level of interest going forwards? Have we approached Heart's new management and (for example) offered them a sponsors box for free at a game where we've got one unsold? Or a couple of tables in the Wright & Lord suite? Get them feeling like they have a relationship with the club, which they will then see value in maintaining.

The only thing worse than being talked about, is not being talked about...

Given the club has been for sale for several years, any long term sponsorship deal may make it less attractive to a potential buyer. Most buyers would want to re-brand it and market their own business, and may not be too keen to find themselves stuck for a few years with a stadium called "Barbara's Wool Arena" when they want to call it "Virgin Arena". I'd suspect the Board are reluctant to sell off the stand/stadium naming too cheaply if it may jeopardise a sale. Not to mention, another mistake was using the Globe name for the hospitality, website, etc. It will cost a fortune for the club to remove the Globe name and rebrand all it's marketing, websites, etc., so it simply can't do that until a new owner/ground sponsor comes in. The whole venue hire/hospitality side of things should have had it's own name/brand, not added on as part of the stadium for this reason.

Have we ever had any sort of sponsorship from an outside company? The Umbro stand, The MBW/Omega stand, The Wright&Lord Suite, The First Choice Suite. They are all owned by present or former Directors. The Globe Arena may have meant a reduction in price, like when you let a tradesman stick his board outside your gate.

How much did we pay a firm to find a new ground Sponsor? Isn't our Commercial Manager only part time?

I agree with all of that Ken. But by the same token, we're still branded after a company that went bust years ago. I'd think any major new investor would rather put up with a financially stable club that plays at 'Barbara's Wool Arena' for another season than one that is crippled in debt and playing in The National League?

Okay, we really don't want to give the stadium naming away to a local company (sorry Barbara!) because it will get national coverage, so we need to capitalise on that.

But certainly, if it is correct, as stated earlier, that The Omega Holiday Stand sponsorship has run out, then I'd definitely sell that to 'Barbara's Wool' or anyone else. Or, for example, go to an existing sponsor last September, like Vantage Skoda and say 'if you pay for our away travel for the rest of the season, then we'll let you re-brand the stand with Skoda'. Relatively small cost to them (and/or Skoda), bring in some cash and has an opportunity to develop a relationship going forwards?

Hopefully nothing! I'd have hoped any payment would have been a percentage of a successful sponsorship agreement?

Don't know, but again, if they were paid on a commission basis?

I don't really think the club are in the market for really big names to sponsor the stadium. Most big firms do it for publicity and brand awareness, so they want to see larger attendances and more TV coverage than Morecambe can provide. A brief mention of "at the globe arena" on the TV highlight shows doesn't really cut it for the big names.

Personally, considering how long we've been without a ground sponsor and how long the club has been up for sale, I don't think they've been using the right agents to market the club (if they've been using anyone at all). They should have appointed the large national brokers/agents who will have the links and contacts with the big firms.

Our new commercial manager seems to be making good progress from a low starting point, in terms of filling the hospitality (virtually empty at start of season), more advertising boards, more game/ball sponsorship, etc., but the stadium naming sponsorship is on a different level and needs national professionals.

Could be wrong (yet again :!:  ) but isn't it in October when their initial 2 year deal is up for renewal which could see our club up for sale...AGAIN... :?: :?: :?:

Somehow had it in mind that it was in October 2017 when our club was taken over by the Bond Group and that it could mean that we were on the market ..yet again. However now realise that it was May 2018...
