Tom Barkhuizen

I understand from the local grapevine in Preston that in the transfer window Middlesborough made enquiries about our former player Tom but were put off by Preston's asking price of £5 million pounds. I also understand he is not signing a new contract at North End. I wonder if he is on his way in the summer and will we get a nice sum of money as part of any transfer fee due to the sell-on clause? It would be very welcome!

I assume that if he refuses to sign a contract that makes him a player able to move on a free transfer and if that is the case we would not receive a penny, BUT that is conditional on that contract being better than the one he is on now....I think... :?: :?: :?:

Nope. If he was <24yrs and offered a contract that is the same or better, but moves, then a fee is payable. >24yrs, he can go anywhere on any contract. If he's out of contract in the summer and goes for nothing, then we're stuffed... again

So how did that work out then?

Contracted until June 2020.

Anything over £150k and we get 15% of the difference I believe.

He is 25 now so if he runs his contract down until 2020 then he can move free on a Bosman and we will receive Jack Shit.
