It felt, like being back in the conference 3 nil against Forest Green Rovers, good performance as well.
Just a thought but the lengthy injury list has possibly worked in our favour because I doubt if either Bennet or Collins would have been here otherwise and they could be the difference between staying up or going down.

Just watched the highlights v FGR on the OWS and an observation that our distribution could be a lot better. Too many passes go straight to the opposition which could be an indication of slight panic to get rid of the ball. If we could improve our passing we would create more chances I'm sure. No doubt JB is well aware of our need to improve in that area.

Maybe having the new rumoured training ground at the Uni will provide a more reliable surface and not be affected by the weather as does Turners which will provide our coaching staff more opportunity to work on certain aspects of our game :?:

Tuesday's game v MK Dons will be a totally different game than that v FGR as MK are good as going forward in more of a direct manner than yesterdays opponents who despite some very accurate passing moves didn't really create that much in terms of a goal threat.

Not a fan of the obsession with passing the ball. FGR passed it around lovely yesterday but to no avail. The stats regarding possession and completed passes are pointless, it is and always will be about goals. Our biggest frailty is not putting a foot in and pressing the ball. We look like traffic cones at times.

Mk....serious promotion contenders. 10 goals in their last 5 games.
MFC...relegation battlers. 8 goals in our last 5 games.

Our current form, and ability to put a few in the onion bag of late, makes Tue night an interesting prospect. They don’t concede many, so we have to keep it tight and organised at the back, and do the same. Bring it on.

50 miles an hour wind forecast for Tuesday night that will have a big impact on the game.

I agree with this. I actually think we’ve played some really nice passing football this season, yet we’re having one of our worst seasons since promotion in terms of results/league position.

If anything, I think what we’ve lacked is direct football - getting the ball forward quickly with pace. We did that against Forest Green and it worked a treat. Of course, we were clinical and defended well too which are the final ingredients. More of the same tactics for me please.

Still in a trance, can't believe the performance and result. They were like Barcelona of L2 up to the penalty area, totally out passed us, but couldn't find a way through. Thought they would make a comeback but we kept them at bay.
Love 2 up front, giving the defence a breather and a big plus was Wildig back, although he was hobbling a bit towards the end.
Great day to score 3 as well, so surprised the keeper got MOM even though he made some good saves.
Good to see some positivity as well instead of all the rubbish being spouted over recent weeks

Tuesday will be interesting, with a little bit of pressure off
Enjoy yourself.... It is later than you think

Cracking result. Shame I missed it. Hopefully backed up on Tuesday but it will be tough.

Also absolutely rock solid formation of 2 banks of 4 - for once we had a "proper" midfield. Last home game was 4 at the back, but in reality it was 5 as Kenyon constantly stood in a back line of 5 so we had 3 centre backs and a very weak midfield. Oates was awesome - tracking back to defend and give proper support to Conlon (which Kev never does) as well as running at their defenders. More of the proper 4-4-2 formation please and none of this 1 up front rubbish with no midfield support.

Agreed. I was pleased to see Wildig back in the side and he was excellent.

Left back is where I feel we are most vulnerable and maybe when Cranston serves his suspension then his way back into the team is there instead of Conlan.

Not sure how much "hospitality" the sponsors had partaken when they selected Halstead as Man Of The Match ! He made a few routine saves that he would expect to make. For me it should have gone to either Oates or Collins although everyone played well.

Broadly agree with your post, but Halstead made a couple of superb saves, at crucial times in the match. His 'spread eagle, star jump' block to save from point blank range was the kind of thing Peter Schmeichel would pull off for Man Utd! I'd have given it to Oates or Collins too, but wasn't unhappy to see it going to Halstead.

So how did that work out then?

To be fair, I believe the MOM was chosen by the five year old daughter of the match sponsor on Saturday, so she didn’t do too badly!! :D

Firstly, what a great result and a real feel-good factor as we left the stands on Saturday. I thought we were clinical in front of goal and looked really threatening in the final third, and I honestly can't remember the last time I even came close to saying that!

However, after getting our two early goals we sat back and stood off. We just can't do that. It's as if we're waiting for the opposition to do something and just hoping that they mess it up. Thankfully, I thought FGR were pretty poor. Their team passed well, but with little intent and had little bite up front.

For long stretches of the game Mingoia was doubling up at RB and Oates at LB, yet they were each just stood next to Mills/Conlan all 5 yards off the FGR player, waiting for them to either cross it or make a run. That was the case pretty much all over the pitch. If we do that against MK Dons on Tuesday we're going to get slaughtered.

I genuinely believe that if we pressed across the pitch and actually tried to win the ball back then we now have the quality going forwards to demolish a lot of the teams in L2. I'm incredibly happy with the 3-0 win, but I can't help feeling we could have put 5 or 6 past them with relative ease.

Great signs for the rest of the season. Onwards and upwards!
