I’m not one of the anti VO brigade, but that substitution for me was a mistake. The big lad did “ok,” but nothing like the movement and threat of Bennett.
Thank goodness we have Collins.

Not sure why Oliver came on for bennet... other than Bennet is going back and Oliver will be here next season.....
Also there manger was shouting and giving instructions at 1-0 down and at 1-1 to encourage them to go for a winner.... Jim was lent against the stand

Jim has no need to shout as we play the same way for 90 minutes. He just changes the players like for like.

Almost got his perfect result - a keep it tight smash and grab just like Crawley. Stifled any positive play, happy with a goalless draw from the start! Unfortunately big V getting on the pitch was inevitable and reduced our goal threat, thankfully Collins came on and won a penalty. Our first shot on target in the 80th minute!!! Collins and Bennett (i think) have scored more individual goals in their loan spells than V has in 2 years!! We inch closer to a new contract for Jim. Nice to stay in the league but can we please try and win the odd game or two??
Don't worry be happy!

It looked like Bennett took a knock first half and was walking abit gingerly afterwards. Perhaps it was precautionary. From what I've seen of VO he is not near the level we need, but to give him his dues he won near enough every header when he came on.

I wasn't sure it was a penalty. I'm not saying that it wasn't, but it looked like the keeper possibly got his hand to the ball and Collins tumbled over.

Ok, but if it is a penalty why wasn't it red for their keeper? He was last man. He didn't even get a yellow....

I think there is a new rule where they can't send the GK off if a pen is awarded. Was never a pen, the GK got his hand to the ball.

Like every game that Bennett has started to date he gave 100% and more but he was running on empty as a single striker and the change was logical replacing height with height although at the time I questioned the logic of bringing Oliver on considering that he hasn't had any game time even in last weeks reserve game time since returning from injury.

Going forward now that we are hopefully safe from relegation, maybe it is worth blooding some of the younger squad players to see what they can do :?: :?: :?:

It's worth playing the best attack and letting them attack to what that will do. We are more than likely going to lose on Saturday so what harm can it do ;)

Surely as Morecambe fans, being awarded the penalty is all that matters, debatable or not :?:
We have had enough decisions that have gone against us.

Not sure if me saying it wasn't a pen will have much impact almost 24hrs after the game? I cheered when it was given and cheered when we scored.

Cheered when the pen was given and we scored, having seen it on tv though the keeper pushed the ball away and Collins wouldn'tve got the ball even if he avoided the keeper! Chalk up one stroke of luck to us :D

Bennett as the single striker on his own was running on empty so he had to be replaced.

Have to admit the decision not to start with Collins preferring Kevin seemed strange to me and others in our usual pre match get together but as has been suggested elsewhere we are unaware of what has happened during the past week's training now once again on grass at the Uni.

I didn't really have much of an issue with Vadaine coming on. Bennett had taken a fair few kicks throughout and it was probably wise to spare him. The addition of Collins soon after then made it make quite a fair bit of sense. He went up front with Mandeville switching to the wing, and was basically just making runs in behind the defence, which he won the penalty from and was nearly put through from a Roche kick.

Pitch was looked an utter nightmare for control - bobbly and hard. Think that effected both teams and their attempts to play, which made the game pretty turgid. Seemed to me like Jim had sacked off trying to pass as much (which I could completely understand in the conditions) and went with Oliver/Collins for a route one style. Bennett is a better all round player and traps the ball better than Oliver imo, but Oliver does have a superb leap on him and won/flicked on a fair few headers, more than Bennett was doing. Although it didn't come off through that combination, I thought the tactic was understandable and am surprised not more people have commented on it as I thought it was fairly obvious. In that context, his subs very much do make sense.

As regulars to SVs readers will know V is no favourite of mine BUT I wonder if a partnership of V and Bennett with Collins on the wing could reap some benefit in the games to come assuming that we will not be blooding some of the younger squad members.

Sorry to say this but for me Kevin is no longer a 90 minute player and could be used as an impact sub. As for next season a role as a coach with the youngsters would be ideal for their futures with our club. Fancy having Kev as your mentor.... :)

If the pitch was hard and bobbly why did we not use the sprinklers? Not seen them used for a couple of years, probably do not work anymore.Although Grimsby players did not seem to struggle to play 'football 'in my view!

First two, yes, but Cranston on for Mingoia was nonsensical, especially when Cranston's mistake led to their goal. Presumably, it was Jim doing his usual of going defensive.

O/T

An article from Transfermarkt.com rates Morecambe’s squad value at 18th out of 24 in Lge2.
£2.32m, with AJ the most valuable at £ 270k........interesting(??)
