Wouldn't the next home match (against Cheltenham with a larger than usual crowd), be a great opportunity to collectively show that appreciation once again? Maybe some chants/songs etc in LOUD SUPPORT of the man and all that he has done for the club. There must be people out there who could organise something like this.
Here’s my issue; the majority of supporters already DO give Jim (in particular) and his team a good vocal backing and no doubt this will continue. In fact two weekends ago I was away on a stag do and one of the other attendees (a friend of the stag) who had been to Yeovil away at the turn of the year joking commented to others in attendance that as a fan base Morecambe love the manager more than the players, have more chants about the manager than the team, and sang Jim Bentleys barmy army for 20 minutes non-stop (which we did) to the point that it was irritating. So what more can we do, if that’s a complete outsiders interpretation of our support of the manager?
Good on Jim for getting this off his chest (I think it’s been bothering him for a while, he tried to bring it up as part of questioning for his radio interview) if he feels it’ll do some good - but the sound bite emanating from that interview, subsequent headlines and the discussions here and elsewhere are that Morecambe fans in general don’t appreciate or show him respect to King Jim - which in my opinion is not the case at all. I know in the interview Jim states that he’s referring to a minority, but that’s the part that’s not being captured and is drastically understated.
Football is a game if opinions; you’re never going to please everybody. Ultimately the only opinion that matters from a footballing point of view at any club is that of the manager. As a manager, Jim’s achievements in continually keeping us up and getting the very best out of the players that come here (most of them because of Jim) speaks volumes. It’s a shame in my opinion that that Jim has given a handful of supporters who shout instructions/comment from behind the dugout, the attention that they crave.
