Doesn’t sound positive but that might be me just being pessimistic. He owes Jim a full year here ;) Hurry back AJ.

I don't think it sounded too bad. He said he's enjoyed his time with us and must weigh up the pros and cons which is the correct thing to do. It's now up to morecambe to make him an offer. If somewhere else made him a much bigger offer then he will go but if the other offer is not much better than ours he may well decide that it's not worth the risk of going somewhere he may not enjoy. It would probably help if most of the other players can be persuaded to stay as well.

So we all obviously hope he chooses us, the club where he's made the biggest impact by far and which seems to be a good fit for him at this stage of his career. But if he decides the grass is greener somewhere else are we entitled to a transfer fee? He's under 24 and I'm fairly sure the rules say that if we offer him a contract equal to or better than the last one he was on we are entitled to a fee?

It isn't a 'transfer fee', it is 'compensation for development'. As a result, one of the key elements is how long a player has been with a club. If he'd come through our academy & youth set up, we'd get a large compensation fee, but as he's only been with us since January, any compensation would be minimal. We could presumably argue that we've turned his career around, but it would not be a strong 'development' argument.

So how did that work out then?

Ah I see, thanks for that. It seems that since he scored a few goals for us he's suddenly in demand. The Newport County forum are saying that their club are keen on 'bringing him home'. He came up for discussion after he left Wolves and none of them appeared keen to take him back. A few goals later and they all want him back. Hopefully he will look at his longer term prospects and decide to stop with us. He's a good fit here and a productive season could well see him do a Barkhuizen and jump straight into a Championship team. A move elsewhere could see him down the pecking order and his career stalling. Hope we can offer terms to persuade him to stop.

The situation you describe has been pointed out to Aaron by most of the backroom staff, he’s better being a regular starter for a season and getting goals and enhancing his reputation further than benchwarming at somewhere else.
Jim confirmed this, and John McMahon who has done a lot of coaching with Aaron also was into him on Saturday saying the same.
His agent is pretty decent according to the club, and if an offer came in in January for him if he’s done well, we would be happy for him to move on up, like Tom did.
Here’s hoping!!

Has he relocated to Morecambe following his move from Wolves in January?

According to Radio Wales, the Newport manager intends talking to Aaron with a view to a return.

He was also in the Oldham stand along with his parents when they played Oldham last week.

Financially I doubt whether we could compete with them so it all depends how much he has enjoyed his time with us.

Poor guy won't have seen much to shout about at that game, if he's any sense he'll stay at Morecambe.
