Ray Kennedy Cup

Ray Kennedy Cup

Postby thedoc » Wed Jul 31, 2019 7:06 am

I’ve just been listening to Radio 5 Live and they had a piece about the Ray Kennedy Cup. Never heard of it, personally. Ray (Arsenal; Liverpool; England) died quite young from Parkinson’s disease and this is a competition for people who – like him – have been diagnosed early. The English team will be competing in Denmark in this competition – and where do you guess they are training?

That’s right, Morecambe. There was an interview with Ken McKenna and Kevin Ellison in the article. Kev made the point that he is older than some of the men in the team and that his worries – moaning it had been too hot on Monday and too wet yesterday – has been put in proper perspective by the situations they find themselves in. Well said Kev. Well done the club. I don’t know how to make a link to any recording of this piece – if you do, it was about 7.35ish this morning. Makes you even more proud to be a Shrimps fan. Here’s a bit about the competition itself:

Oops. It has been pointed out to me that my report of Ray's demise is premature: he is still with us. Sorry Ray. For once, I'm actually glad to have got something wrong...

No problem, happy to help.

I lost my dad to Parkinson's - it's a truly awful disease.

Ray Kennedy's autobiography "Ray Of Hope" has been out for a few years now but is a really good read.

The clubs link to this team is due to our shirt sponsor Annapurna, whose owner has EOP,early onset Parkinsons.I think he has organised this team and plays for it so good luck to them
