Impartial view on Radio Lancashire

Postby redrobo » Wed Sep 04, 2019 10:31 am

Last night I listened to the game on Radio Lancashire and the co commentator with Quinny remarked how our defense didn't put any tackles in until the opposition reached the penalty box preferring to jockey the opposing player with the ball rather than tackle long before he got close to our penalty box.

This is something that happens in every game which in my opinion puts extra pressure on our defenders time after time.

It's gone on for so long that it must be part of team instructions which I find very worrying especially as JB was an outstanding defender who didn't allow his man a sniff of the ball more times than not.

In his post match interview JB said that there are positives to take from the game and that part of the problem is that we are not as big as last year. Considering that the defense is the same as last year bar one and that midfield is also the same then I'm not sure what he is talking about.

In a word Neil, Fleming. He used to be our best tackler, defense as well as midfield, so we're not the same in midfield when the team's best, most aggressive tackler's gone.

Agree completely.
Flemo was brilliant at anticipating and nicking the ball, we miss him for that alone.

Amazing how Jim, who ended up not rating Flemo and turned him into a bench-warmer, now doesn't seem to know what we'll do without him.

I agree with what's been said about Flemo, who is a huge miss, but I'm starting to get bored of Jimbo's excuses...

As for standing off attackers - it's been a mainstay for too many years now and is a huge frustration to all those watching.
