National League Preview - Chorley v Yeovil

National League Preview - Chorley v Yeovil

For those of you wondering what the National league is like I went to Chorley v Yeovil.

It seems that you do have a lot more time on the ball especially in midfield both teams passed it around and tried to get it to their wide men as much as possible, lots of runs from wingers cutting into the box and both teams winning lots of corners. Reminded me very much of our style of play under Harvey and overall it seemed a lot less of a battle compared to League 2 matches which can sometime resemble pub football where there just become scrappy and hoofball.

However the game did seem a lot slower and didn't seem to have that cut and thrust that league 2 games have (sometimes it felt like a friendly) and despite all the nice passing there was a lack of quality especially in the final 3rd.

I thought Yeovil looked a strong fit team and when they went 1v0 up after 8 mins thought it would be men v boys but Chorley held their own and Yeovil especially lacked that cutting edge. It would be interesting to see what Yeovil are like against a top team, maybe they just didn't get out of second gear today on todays showing Morecambe wouldn't have to much to worry about.

One thing we would struggle with is that if we sat back teams would quite happily try and pass their way around us and run straight through us.

One thing that is far superior at Chroley compared to the Globe is the catering, their refreshment hut has 3 types of pies, chips, burgers, chicken nuggets, peas, gravy, curry sauce the list goes on! I also went a full 15mins before halftime and there was shed loads of food there. How can Chorley manage that and we can't.

Also the club house was heaving before the game mainly due to all the Yeovil fans and they had 5/6 bar staff and a lane system for queuing, despit been busy I only had to wait less than 5 mins.

Victory park sure makes you reminisce about old Christie Park as they are the spitting image of each other.

Indeed very similar to those early conference years.

The crowds would still be decent in the National League

We would get decent followings from Wrexham, Chesterfield. Hartlepool, Stockport and quite a few others

People think dropping into the National League is end of the world but far from it

You seem to think we're relegated already? Regardless of weather a new manager is appointed?

Not saying that at all but it’s not looking good

All I was saying is that quite a few of the teams in the National League would bring decent followings

Not the end of the world but the end of Academy funding if you don't go back into the EFL in the first 2 years after being relegated. Dagenham had to sack their academy manager and all his staff when they didn't come back.

Did you enjoy watching a former MFC player actually scoring a goal today? Massanka, not deemed good enough for us or really given the chance.Nice to see he's at a good level still.
Don't worry be happy!

Yes he is still a handfull and Chorleys main attacking threat, he should be playing at a higher team.

They also have Chris Holroyd he probably has found his level.
