Manager applications?

Manager applications?

Postby redrobo » Fri Nov 01, 2019 3:30 pm

Without actual naming anybody for obvious reasons, for me it's an ideal opportunity for the Board and Owners to provide a most welcome up to date communication as to where we are regarding applicants for the position.

For example has interest been greater than we expected in particular from existing experienced managers both currently in work or out and of players coming to the end of their careers wishing to move into the world of management at a club renowned for giving its management team time to get it right.

Yes it would be interesting to know if there has been lots of interest considering we are always told noone would apply and who would we get.

I always wondered how it works is there a clsoing date, do people send CV's in, do agents contact the club etc

like most players/managers/coaches/physio's will register and go through the PFA, where Jobs etc are advertised.

https://www.thepfa.com/

PS i think we will get quite a bit of interest.

Aimed at nobody in particular.

Its not always about the wages, it wasnt with Sol Campbell or Paul Ince at Macclesfield they just wanted a Management job, and same with James Beattie at Accrington Stanley he was loaded, and even bought players with his own money.

I don't think anyone said there wouldn't be any applicants, it is whether the quality would be better. I could apply, would mean I'd be appointable! I think Freez applied for a management job once just because he was young & stupid (unlike now, when he's old & stupid).

I think Sol Campbell is owed money from when he was at Macclesfield!

Oh no! anybody cant do that.

I tried creating an account a few months ago with the PFA and got nowhere, its like Fort Knox now, you use to be able to go straight on and see lists of out of work players and Managers, vacancies etc.

Keith for a bit of fun try and can get on and see if you apply :)

Great to hear that "dozens" of applications have been made and that a short list has been drawn up. #mythbuster

Heard that he was here but o way do we want him. I suspect it's the new owners putting him forward but could be wrong.

I'll say it once again, Kevin for me until at least end of the season.

You could see the players respect for the guy and what a breath of fresh air he and Baz where on the touchline. No shouting at players or telling them were they should be.

Not one I'd want. Exeter fans went against him for the same negative playing style that has been moaned about on here for ages.

I wasn't sure initially with Kev & Baz being caretakers, but with the grace and professionalism in which they have dealt with the situation this week and today, their team selection, the team tactics, the togetherness of the team, the buzz created at the match today, and obviously the result, I really do hope Kev & Baz have (or will) lodge their applications for the managerial vacancies. Big Kev on the touchline had the demeanor of the dapper Tisdale, and I was most impressed by the post-match interviews by big Baz. One as a seasoned goal-scorer, one as a top-class goal-keeper and both as seasoned pro's, I really do hope this develops into something great for the club and them! Well done for today! COYS!!!

I think Kev could attract players to the club like Jim did he is well known, respected and passionate.

That is where we will miss Jim and where I think an external will really struggle if they cant offer good wages will they have that passion to sell the club to them.

Inclined to agree with this. Jim did excel in that department and Kev would be the same. My concern is whether Kev's health would suffer if times got rough.

No way should he even be interviewed even if he's been put forward by the owners....

We need someone who knows EFL 2 and has contacts within our catchment area, not somebody currently based down South who doesn't know EFL 2 or how to operate on a small budget even if their was a modest increase going forward...

Do you think they ask formal questions or is it just a chat about their football philosophy etc.

I would like to find out a bit about them why they think they would fit in at a place like Morecambe as well as what their football plan is. I would ask something like:-

What do you know about Morecambe FC and it's hisory? (if they don't know much they don't really care nad will never understand us so they might as well stop after Q1)

Tell us about your past and why you think your the man to take this club forward and why you will fit in at Morecambe?

How will you ensure the clubs values are upheld under your leadership?

What is your plan/philosophy for the team and how will this ensure we move up the table?

How would you pursuade players to come to Morecambe given it's location and the fact they can earn more money in a lower league? (maybe that's a bit negative)

How would you work with the academy and what is your track record of bringing through young players?

You’re absolutely insane.

Here’s a bloke who has got promoted from the Championship and has experience of managing in the Premier League yet you don’t think he’s even worthy of an interview for the side bottom of League 2?

If he’s genuinely interested in being our manager then we should be falling over ourselves to at least interview him and see what he has to say.

I'm a bit baffled by the hate shown towards McDermott. I have no idea where it stems from. He is a top quality coach with a good record at a much higher level than ours. He has always conducted himself well and seems very articulate on the TV.

The no contacts thing is laughable. The man was a scout for Arsenal so I am sure he has a few contacts in the game.
