Interesting thing from that article I noticed that it was Cheltenham Town who bid £175,000 :o

'Cheltenham, then a League Two club, had a bid of £175,000 rejected in the summer of 2018 but any potential fee would now be much-reduced due to the striker's contract situation'.

Wow, I always considered Cheltenham to be not that far ahead of us in the pecking order, but that tends to suggest that some clubs have far more resources than you might imagine. Puts it in perspective what we are up against!

In a nutshell PS. Some of our footy experts will find a counter argument no doubt.

I'm sure they'll point to the occasions when we've made £100k+ bids for players...

Joe Nuttall staying at Blackpool because they spent a lot of money on him and Grayson rates him. Their fans are disenchanted with Grayson and don't rate Nuttall very highly.

Heard last night that DA has identified another 3 players he wants BUT until a number leave for pastures new he can't progress any further with bringing them on board. This news confirms the info posted by my 'mate' MrP.....

I understand that DA has told the players that there has to be no swearing in the dressing rooms or anywhere else under his stewardship. Certainly stamping his authority throughout the club which is just what our club need. The old saying that a new broom sweeps clean certainly applies in our case.

It also seems to confirm that there isn't a pot of money which the owners are prepared to release to the new manager ;)

This is a sensible approach. We have a large squad which needs to be whittled down before major surgery can take place. Without naming names recent events clearly indicate there are several who aren't in Dereks plans going forward. HOWEVER getting them off the wage bill is easier said than done. I suspect several will be more than happy to see out their contracts with us and collect the easy money for doing so. The close season should be interesting with a large clear out of out of contract players, several of whom will probably never play at this level again! The object for the remainder of this season should be to remain in the EFL without breaking the bank, then allow Derek to work his magic in the close season.

Wonder if they paid more than the £50K they offered 3 years ago?
Rather he went there than Stevenage

Pointless signing if true, There's no way their getting out of this League, either end and most of the squad will be gone at seasons end.
Maybe Mills will grow his hair back and come home to Morecambe ;)

Just watched the extended highlights of the Port Vale match and a couple of things really stood out to me on what was maybe a turning point evening.

What a great team spirit there is among the players , they throw their bodies on the line to protect the goal. Jim also had this sort of spirit in previous seasons especially in those dark times when pay day was delayed. I don't think it was there for Jim this season up to the point when he resigned. I think a few players let Jim down when it came to commitment but it is obvious Derek is going to be absolutely ruthless in his pursuit of making Morecambe a better team and all power to his elbow. Maybe Jim was too matey with some of the players meaning they took their foot off the gas.

How much has Carlos Mendes-Gomes improved in the games he has played for Derek. I remember people raving about him 2 years ago when we first took him into the club. Derek has given him licence to play in "the hole" and he has been superb. As someone said he is a bit like Carl Baker was for us but Carlos is only 21 and I for one will be relieved if he is still one of our players after the "window" closes in 2 weeks. He could , if he continues to develop be Morecambe FC 's first £1 million player.

Great post!
It was the best I've seen Morecambe play in a good while, extremely enjoyable infact
If this is a sign of things to come, the club is most definitely back on the right track.

I agree with almost all of the post. The only issue I'd have is:

Gone_Shrimping wrote:What a great team spirit there is among the players... ...I don't think it was there for Jim this season up to the point when he resigned... ...Maybe Jim was too matey with some of the players meaning they took their foot off the gas.

I think it was more about confidence than spirit, although the two are closely aligned. I said a few times before Jim went, that we looked like a side devoid of confidence. Psychologically, that is such a strange quality, especially in football. The midfield in particular always looked for the simple, sideways or backwards pass, not wanting to take responsibility. Now, with the new lads coming in, a change in style and players and a decent result, confidence looks to have returned. The great performance & result on Tuesday will keep it on the up.

I particularly agree with this! :D Carlos is getting better & better with each game. Some of his passes are exquisite! And at his age, he can't be stolen from us, although I'd prefer to see him on a decent contract with us sooner rather than later!

Carlos beating his man, hugging the touchline was stupendous at times, ofcourse he ended up getting taken out unceremoniously right infront of us.

Carlos single handedly tormented Colchester’s full back so much he got 2 yellow cards in eight minutes last week.
Last person we had or do that was Jack Redshaw!

The “scary” thing for our opposition, is that the lad has so much more in the locker to come aswell. An absolute pleasure to watch. He plays without “fear,” and is such a natural talent. What a modest and grounded young man too.

Someone will undoubtedly come in for Carlos and it's alright people on here saying we must give him a new contract but it depends whether he wants one. He may decide to see his existing contract out and we miss out again :(

Under 24, so as long as he's offered a contract of the same or better value, we would get a compensation fee which *should* be his actual value, decided by aberration if the two clubs can't agree.

Interesting spot, looks like he played for them at least twice: https://twitter.com/AcademyBFC/status/1 ... 4472780801

Triallist? Seems odd right at the end of the season

Yes, The Tykes asked if he could have a trial, and we agreed.
Nothing came of it, but that was when Stendhal was manager I think.
