Looks as though a number areas in the North West have suffered from today's storm including Sandside near Arnside where a boat has suddenly appeared marooned on the road leading up to the 'old railway' bridge on the road between Milnthorpe and Arnside.
Not quite sure where the boat came from but Arnside is the most probable.
Never seen that happen before but today's storm was not the norm by any means.
My Aunt used to live in a cottage adjacent to the prom at Sandside that used to be used as an overnight stop for those who used to carry coffins over the estuary from the Grange Over Sands area to Beetham for burial a few centuries ago. Her cottage was regularly flooded until the council provided her and others facing the estuary with storm flood gates. At very high tide they proved invaluable.
We still get idiots trying to drive through flood water on the prom and many get stranded.
Serves the idiots right as far as I'm concerned.
