Worcester staff/players to have wages cut by 25% from April 1st

Strange saying 25%, would have expected 20% considering the government should be covering 80% - eventually!

Would be a superb gesture if our players volunteered to take a 20% pay cut to help their employer at this critical time for clubs and ours in particular.

I suspect that the 80% will be of whatever is actually paid, not 80% of normal pay.

Maximum of £2,500 per month, so if players are on more than £36k then it doesn't cover 80%.

Also I guess the extra cut could be to cover other running costs?

Footballers are employees of a Ltd company like a vast number of other workers.

I think the Government are doing a great job in going over and above to cover the wages of well paid folk aswell as those less fortunate, Just as long as everyone taking this money, knows it'll be getting clawed back sometime in the future, they can't complain when it happens.

The EFL announced a £50 million fund for its clubs but it is predicted that will only last for circa 4 weeks.

They expect a number of clubs with poor finances to go to the wall and that SKY are expected to not fulfill its TV financial package to the Premier League.

The Premier league only care about their own needs and have said as much, like all other businesses, you either have the means to survive or you don't and that has now filtered down to every single person working or not.

Folk have never had it so good but they're about to find out just how difficult it was for their parents and grandparents, best be ready for a very basic lifestyle in the coming weeks and months.

Depends on whether they were paid fully as employees under PAYE. Maybe normal at smaller clubs like ours, but bigger clubs often pay players via their own personal service companies, offshore trusts, loan schemes, image rights, etc., so they won't get the 80%. I just don't know how common that is for the likes of our club where presumably wages are pretty low anyway so maybe not much scope for tax avoidance schemes?
