Turnstiles on Friday

Turnstiles on Friday

Postby North Stand Shrimp » Sun Apr 05, 2009 8:13 pm

With only 3 weeks until the London Marathon and still £690 off my fundraising target the club have very kindly given me permission to do a bucket collection at the turnstiles at the Bradford game on Friday.

We will be situated, with our buckets and collection tins, outside all the turnstiles from them openning until kick off and would appreciate any spare change you can afford.

we will also be collecting again at half time if you missed us at the turnstiles.

Mark, any chance of an annoucement over the tannoy?

Thankyou

Paul

NB: You can also donate online with a card via my justgiving page which has a link in my signature below! It doesn't have to be a large ammount to donate this way, i think the minimum is just £2!
About my charity : Leonard Cheshire Disability
Leonard Cheshire Disability supports over 21,000 disabled people in the UK and works in 55 countries around the world. We campaign for change and provide innovative services that give disabled people the opportunity to live life their way. Our services are wide ranging and include day and residential care homes, care at home, resource centres, rehabilitation, respite care and training and assistance for those looking for work. International services include inclusive education for disabled children, training and research to aid recovery in post-conflict and post-disaster countries, and improving access to advice and small business loans. Campaigning is a very important part of our work. Our Creature Discomforts campaign aims to challenge the way people think about and respond to disability in order to remove the barriers faced by disabled people.

If any Bradford fans are reading this, would they mind plugging it on their own message board before the match? Physical disabilities charities are always down at the bottom of the list when it comes to donations, so people like Paul raising funds in this way is vital. I know there are a few Leonard Cheshire Disability services in the Bradford area, so no need to be parochial (as if you would!)!

In the real world, in my services, I have a volunteer coordinator for 21 hours per week, funded by voluntary contributions. Before she was employed (less than a year ago) we had one volunteer, we now have about 15. The coordinator recruits, supports and directs volunteers to make sure that the time they give is used well. For example, these people are able to befriend people with disabilities. There is one lady who is unable to leave her house. She used to see someone only two or three times a week, she now has a volunteer calling in for a chat (company) on a regular basis. The money you give has a real impact upon the lives of disabled people.

Thanks to those of you who have already donated and to those of you who will next week.

So how did that work out then?

It does look very bad from about 1 or 2 onwards, looks like there will be a lot of soggy Bantams about. Just hope it doesn't put people off going.

......you know what's gonna happen...this forum will be littered with soggy Yorkshire puddings complaining about no roof....

Ah well...we'll be nice and cosy huddled together in the Main and North Stands watching the rain as it falls on our friends from the wrong side of the Pennines.
