Line up vs Grimsby

Line up vs Grimsby

Postby Little Shrimp » Wed Sep 02, 2020 7:54 pm

Judging from the team line up and the commentary, it sounds like we are veering towards Adams' apparently favoured 4-2-3-1. Annoyingly, it's hard for us to really get a judge on what the line up will be, or form much of an opinion. But I would guess it might be in this region:

Turner
Mellor/Cooney - Lavelle - Davis - Hendrie
Diagouraga - Phillips
O'Sullivan/Slew - Pringle/Wildig - Mendes Gomes
Stockton

Backline seems pretty obvious aside from RB - obviously we know Cooney's talents but Mellor looked great on those highlights against Workington. Diagouraga seems like a dead cert as does Phillips, who I would prefer coming from a deeper position.

Think Slew will have the edge over O'Sullivan but it's good to competition on the wing. Tranmere vs Newport popped up on TV the other day and I noticed Pringle was playing in more of an attacking midfield role for them, so I wonder if he's a possibility for No10. But then Wildig has been given that number and DA seems a fan of him. Stockton and CMG will likely be pretty certain to start too.

Looking forward to Saturday!

My guess is..... pretty similar to what you have posted. Mellor did well against Workington, so it will be in interesting battle for right back as you say.
Pringle and Wildig are very similar, though Pringle is more left sided, Slew prefers the left but can play right and looked like a different bloke, so there are many ponderables.
Cole will start surely, as AJ hasn’t really featured much if at all.
However, Rochdale on Tuesday will give us another pre season fixture to have a look at what we have!
Interesting times.

Turner
Mellor, Lavelle, Davis, Hendrie
Diagouraga, Phillips
Mendes-Gomes, Wildig, Pringle
Stockton

I think that would be my preferred lineup but I think Derek will go for Slew over Pringle.

Same as rapid, with the exception of Cooney in for Mellor.
